Well, I dislike gun toting rednecks just as much as the next guy, but there is something of value in people having CCWs. I feel self defense is important especially with how crazy society is nowadays. Impairing people and not allowing them to exercise their right to defense does more harm than good.

The outright banning of firearms would only become a temporary solution as banning something displaces it into the black market, which means you're only making it a more lucrative enterprise for criminals to engage in more gun sales over drugs. I'm not convinced banning anything completely eradicated the problem. Just look at the war on drugs.

What I know now is gun Control isn't working. Not banning or the creation of Gun free zones. None of this has done anything to prevent crime, in fact it has only exacerbated the problem. I think people are too fearful of weapons because they've never understood their use past their exposure to them from action movies. I use to carry a knife when I was in middle school for good reason..

I don't actually carry the knife/light/pen. Swiss army has small knife/light/pen and gets by for emergency needs.

lol if you really think the weapon you carry now is anything like the one our founding fathers had in mind when drafting the second amendment.

there is a difference between a firearm that takes a minute to load and files a single shot pretty innacurately to one that will unload 9 rounds in a second and a half with deadly precision

Just like how welfare and all sorts of social programs were what they had in mind when writing "to promote the general welfare."

it doesn't bother me that you are armed - but if large numbers of people buy large numbers of weapons, and don't keep them safe, those weapons find their way into the hands of criminals.

excellent question - because everyone has uniform training and discipline provided by the military, and has a single, long gun, which has to be stored in a specific manner. it is almost impossible to get additional weapons, and you can't be sloppy with your weapons or get out of training.

I would be thrilled to have this system in the US

And people who have CCWs aren't clueless with their weapons. A lot of them have training as well, my only problem with the switzerland system is the fact that it forces conscription.

Also, the black marker argument is sufficient enough for people with at least an elementary understanding of economics.

almost all countries other than the us have conscription in one form or another. historically, most countries in europe had mandatory terms from 3-5 years.
