Granny knot was a good nitpick. I've corrected myself not too long ago. Since then I too started to nitpick like uF.

Obviously the answer to the OP is not receiving free champagne at the Georgetown J. Crew and being accused of stealing $3 worth of iced cream.

This is where I first came across the reef vs. granny debate: http://putthison.com/tagged/Laces

There is a little demonstration in the Put this On shoe episode, and a link to the source (some running blog - wouldn't know anything about that). I had never heard this before, but luckily I have been tying a reef knot my whole life and not knowing it.

LOL, ******* shoelace knots???

I tie "granny knots," they are all I know. I am not that eager to learn a new knot since I have been tying this one for over 35 years.

My former valet won't soon forget the thrashing I gave him when he attempted to tie my shoes with a granny knot.
