They have had these in store for a few weeks - the store models aren't pre scuffed. Given that the soles were worn in the photos, it looks like J Crew literally had a guy wearing them and scuffing them on purpose for a while. I would guess they aren't sold that way

that's the real reason behind it? so that means the stanton pant has a better cotton than the regular chinos? i thoght it's just the wash and dye that costs more.

but after all

Thanks for the intel. I sure hope not -- Crew does have a track record of doing that to perfectly fine garments & footware, like this Quoddy moc http://www.jcrew.com/mens_feature/th...0841/30841.jsp and the Russell 3 eyelet chukka they were selling for a while that seems to have disappeared from the site http://www.jcrew.com/mens_feature/in...ny/Russell.jsp

By the way, Crew has these Quoddys on sale for $199.99 (that's 2009 prices!

) in size 9H (9.5) http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/...~~~~/30841.jsp and Danner Mountain Light IIs in several sizes for $268 http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/...~~~~/30910.jsp

I got a medium Merino half-zip sweater. Anyone know a such fire way to shrink it a tad?

So they don't come as shown in the pictures on the website?

FYI they have had them there for a few months now. In January they had the coniston boot and a short wing that I can't remember the name of. They look good IRL.

No, they don't come as shown. J Crew has taken to showing how the shoes look with a little wear on them...which is sort of cool but also sort of misleading if you don't know that.

Oh, nevermind then...

Actually, it's kind of funny and odd that they choose to show them that way. I find it a little over the top ridiculous myself.
