3:42:27 PM on April 3, except on leap years, when it's 5:22:54 AM on April 4. Seriously, until it's too warm. Seasonality of clothing is dictated by the weather. If it's cold, wear appropriate clothing. If it's warm, wear appropriate clothing.

I walk into a cobbler's store yesterday who happens to be an authorized AE dealer. I was just checking to see they a pair of McAllistars. They didn't, but the guy tells me he could order me a pair and he would give me 15% off. I know this is a good deal, but should I be at all concerned?

Do lasts differ between Florsheims like they do for AEs?

ie, if I fit a 10D in standard Florsheim vintage shoes that you see all over the place, will I have the same size in Imperials?

I'd like to know what SF thinks of this jacket for spring and summer wear: Regent Fit Soft Jacket in Navy, in cotton Nii's list of essentials brought it to my attention. The price is very low and I assume that Brooks Brothers isn't bad quality (maybe that is a bad assumtion). I'd love to hear your thoughts. It would be my first light-weight jacket and therefore probably the only thing I could wear comfortably in the very hot Japanese summer.

About getting a good deal? Do you have some sort of Protestant guilt over it?

I bought a nice silver tie bar on Amazon (searching for "tie bar") for around 40 bucks. It's a little narrow at 1 7/8 inches. Plain silver, straight, nothing etched or added.

I don't ever think overcoats look like dresses, as long as they open in the front, and don't trail on the floor...?

Howard Yount sells a $35 tie bar that matches this description. If you follow a link from the forum I believe it would help support the collective.

Any overcoat you buy will likely have too much material, making it baggy. Bring it to a tailor and tell them you want it to be more fitted. If you don't have a tailor, the salesperson should be able to recommend one. Ought to cost under $50.

It isn't sterling silver (which tarnishes, yo) but they sell one at Target for under ten bucks that's 100% generic.

Probably more concerned about getting factory seconds or something like that.

If he is an authorized dealer that shouldn't be a concern. More likely the retail markup on the shoe is about 30% and he is offering to split that with you so you don't try on the shoe in his shop and then buy the shoe for a better rate off of a website.
