Shared two bottles from my cellar with some friends. 95 Cordon Charlemange and an 83 Dow vintage port. Both were showing incredibly well.

Years ago Berry bros in heathrow had a sale on 83 vintage port. At $22 for the dow, I bought all I could carry but in retrospect, I should have cleaned them out. Sadly, we're down to our last bottle or two.

wine library sent out an email blast touting the well reviewed 2008 Rocca Di Frassinello Le Sughere super tuscan for $16. We don't drink much super tuscan but grabbed some for one of the charity wine tastings we run.

Decanted for an hour, nose of dried flowers, orange rind, on the palate nice, ripe (not over ripe) plums and dried cherries, great, long finish. There's something of a hole in the mid-palate but it's still young. We're going lay down a half case and try a bottle a year. At < $20 worth trying.

btw, we're no longer in the wine business. We created and ran the website for pjwine.com for many years. The owner brought the website in-house, re-launched with a new design and technology. It was a great ride, when I have time, I'll post about our experience.

the article axelman posted was very interesting and i agree with the main point.

when you're looking for wines to buy you're not looking for certain vague aromas (like mint or cinnamon), but the more general features of a wine like typicity, balance, structure, roundedness, fruitiness, complexity. most of the times i cant identify most of the small aromas depicted on the description.

had lots of wine last night. Need to review the restaurant list to figure out what it all was. I just know that we started off with a 2004 Taittinger Comtes de Chamapagne Rose

Had this Friday night with a bottle of Laurent-Perrier Champagne (no picture). Both were very good: and then during the middle of the week was this, also very good and only $17: And then last night was the previously mentioned Comtes Rose. But also some of this: back: which was consumed with these: and a little bit of this: with a bit of these and a bunch of other food that I didn't take a picture of: And then another pinot noir, this one from Cali - the Arcadian Santa Rita Hills 2005 - also very enjoyable. This went with our variable plethora of entrees but I don't have a pic of the bottle since it went into a decanter. And then to close up, a little bit of this excellent Napa late harvest: served with a few pieces of cheese (those are fresh mozzarella balls and not ice cream): And then an assload of desserts. And then a stop at some "Cask" bar (this was all in Brooklyn) for a glass of Pappy Van Winkle 20 year. Cheers.

yeah I would, it was Buttermilk Channel. Everything was very good with some dishes that were excellent. If you can, get a party of 5 and do the reservation route, I saw some people wait around for quite some time to get a table.

Would also recommend the Good Fork and James in Brooklyn. Others rave up No. 7 in Fort Greene but I have found it hit or miss.

Yep, the Crozes-Hermitage is nice too.
