I for one welcome a new sneaker challenger. It won't heart to add to the narrow cheap basic shoe category. Chucks have had their time, as have vans authentics.

But New Balanace? I dunno. How did they become so popular? I don't remember anyone wearing them when I was growing up so we can't really attribute it to nostalgia. They don't have the versatility of Chucks, or vans. They're kind of clunky looking. I don't get it.

The fashion blogs and mags made a bet that they can create enough hype and hivemind that people will like anything, even new balances! *runs and purchases pair*

The only sneaker I've thought did anything for a fit was vans. At least they have some historical cache to them. Never been impressed by cp, nb or any of the ridiculous, velcro'd up Jane Fonda jazzercize holdovers so popular right now.

Since when did every item of clothing have to have "historical cache"? Sometimes it helps put something in context, but not everything has to have some copywriter-written heritage blurb.

While I don't understand why New Balances are suddenly fashionable, I will admit they are super comfortable. I still have a pair that I wear from time to time, but they've seen their better days. My even older ones get used for mowing the grass now.

NB´s have been popular in Stockholm for atleast 10 years among the sneakers/streetwear crowd, ala nike quickstrike and such. I see various retros (574s and earlier) all the time, often in black or some semi-lound color way. However, the "japanese" way to wear them seems slightly different, with more emphasis on "neutral" colors and abit more utilitarian, especially with the 993 model which is bordeline *******-ugly running shoes to me. Pesonally, i have both gray and navy 574s, made in USA and the UK. Both really comfortable and good quality.

NBs are the new Clarks DBs, but more for child molesters rather than rapists
