In my opinion, a more casual shoe like a longwing blucher looks great in calf (or even suede).

What size are those? I didn't see them on the email sent to me from Shoe Mart so i'm assuming they don't ahve these in my size.

Actually, i've been fitted at the Alden store in San Francisco, and went by their call in the barrie last, i have also tried the plaza last. Unfortunately my main experience is with barrie, and the only way to have found out the shoe is not for me is to wear it all day. With that said, i dont think it makes sense to keep trying Alden shoes at about 500 bucks a pop until i find my fit. Now dont think this is any disrespect to Alden or all you guys that like Alden. I like Alden too and think they make a great shoe but fit wise its hard to pin point which Last is the best.

Shoemart cordovan seconds cost $389 (plus $10 shipping but no tax if you are outside CT). So considering #8's run around $600 and the rarer shells are in the high $600's, you are saving $200 to $300 a pair. If the seconds are only a minor flaw (which they often are), you are getting a great deal.

Sounds like a good deal, but could be risky since there are no returns on them, right?

Saw earlier that WP is going out of business...any word on whether any of their Alden boots are part of their final in store sale and if someone is willing to kop a 9D in the brown pebble grain double waterlock sole boot for a fee (if they are part of it)?

I'm in casual or business casual 95% of the time so it's jeans, khakis or a shirt and trousers (usually some shade of grey) most of the time.

Which color should I get?

Thanks for the suggestions. I forgot to mention I have a pair of (Italian) wingtips in a burnished tan so no tan or whiskey for me.

So the choices are cigar, ravello or #8. Which shall it be?

if you can find cigar or ravello, get one of those. personally, I wouldn't buy a stock alden model in #8 (particularly a longwing or PTB, but not nec. a boot). there are enough solid alternatives at much cheaper prices in burgundy/#8 from other brands that I think you are better off spending your money on the stuff that you can only get from Alden

I guess my question is: how versatile is cigar and ravello compared to #8??
