Dressing up seersucker?

I've been contemplating a black seersucker suit. My work is coat-and-tie and I'm one of the younger ones there. I understand that black suits usually are a no-no for business, except in Japan.

But can seersucker dress black down a bit and make it appropriate for the office?

The texture seems to do something wonderful with the black, esp in a slim cut. I live in an area that embraces seersucker almost emphatically as it gets HOT.

why not get a grey seersucker? it looks cool imo and is a bit more subdued than blue or khaki

Grey seersucker - Yes. They look great and won't get you confused with someone in a barbershop quartet. Plus, it's always good to be a little different than the army of guys who buy the blue suckers at JaB.

Black seersucker - God no. You'll look like a prison convict.

I've never seen black seersucker, seems like it would be a very harsh look. Prison stripes was a good comparison.

So stay away from darker colours ... that black will absorb the sunlight and heat you up a lot more than a lighter colour will.

HAHAHA OK I realized my failure to clarify about 20 mins after posting. The seersucker is black-on-black, without any white stripes. I wouldn't be asking if there were white stripes in it. No desire to dress like a '60s Batman villain.

Black suits in the workplace = no, never.

Black suits on the town at night = sure, if you like.

Black seersucker suits on the town at night = why?

Black seersucker suits on a hot summer day = nuts. Don't you think the black might trap a little heat? And isn't that a very harsh color for a hot summer day?

honestly i don't see what's wrong with working in grey, blue, navy, or khaki seersucker.

people from nyc or something might not get it but among southern professionals it can be a status symbol.

also people here overstate "black suits in the workplace" not being ok. i know a lot of professionals of high rank that like black suits. the opinion here doesn't represent the "facts on the ground." if your clothes look good but break rules, some stodgy people might not like it but those people are mostly dead or on here.

one thing the pic won't tell you but as someone who's tried on something similar (me) will... that will be NOISY, that's right, I said noisy. You wouldn't believe the rasping sound taht will make as your arms and legs move...
