I'm starting my own online tailor business. I'm a marketing nerd, so the process has entailed a tremendous amount of research. This has yielded my two lists below. I'm posting in hopes that others can make some use of it. The upper list includes those firms that I deemed "professional." It's close to exhaustive (edit: maybe not
smile.gif
The second list contains smaller manufacturers that I deemed "Asian companies that have ****** websites and thus probably don't get a lot of sales from the web." It's not remotely close to exhaustive. (They were to be candidate suppliers.) I get the impression that these businesses are desperate, and they'd probably cut you a nice deal if you asked. (You ought to be able to get them down to USD 10-15 per shirt.) In negotiating, work what you've got: you'll tell SF about them if you like them, you'll order more if the first fits, you want to order but just don't have the money. If anyone else is starting their own online tailor business--I hear it's all the rage

Carl, that's because you are an actual professional, as opposed to "professional-looking."

Substance vs. flash!

You've been left behind, old man. Your only hope is to undercut the $10 shirt guys the OP mentioned.

Tailoring business doesn't strict to only kind of dressing material. It would be good for one who is expert in making all kinds of designed, stylish and attractive costumes.Improvement of this business needs creation and innovation of dressing things in the favor of people's attention, attraction in the competitive world.

LOL. I'm almost tempted to start such a business myself. Now, where's that tape measure ...

That's a lot of options. I used atailoredsuit.com several years ago and I still wear the shirts regularly. But they're showing their age with very light fraying around the cuff etc. I'm drawing a blank on what they cost at the time of purchase but it was more than made up by the fact I wore them for 3 years and they still fit amazing.

I am however interested in an operation with more options and competitive pricing. (Perhaps even made in the USA?) Also ATS now asks me to put in a buch of log in information to even browse fabrics patterns which I don't really like. I suppose I'll have to start combing through this list. Thanks.

Does the USA have the mindset to make high quality cotton shirting? The Walmart culture the nation exhibits for mass manufacturing - cheaper is better - seems a major road block

I can imagine cutting and sewing carried out locally in the US but not sourcing woven cotton - Asian or European mills must be the way to go

Cutting and sewing in the US would be interesting. If anything, I don't know what the mindset across the USA has. So if someone knew of a great place that put together a great shirt I would be interested.

I'm not sure what your Walmart comment meant specifically, most of the textiles sold in them are surely sourced from Asia.

You could be right about the foreign mills. Just curious.
