I'm trying out Chivas Regal 12 Year Old Blend Scotch.

It's decent....

I'm just peer reviewing papers anyway

****** martini with Hendricks Gin - First attempt bartender shook the **** out of the thing and barely used any vermouth. Next attempt was "swirled" and was only marginally better. $11 for that.

Bartenders really just aren't used to making martinis for people who actually like martinis. When you order, specify everything you consider important.

For example: "Hendricks Martini, Four to one, stirred, with a twist." If they screw that up, then they either can't measure, can't read the name on the bottle, or can't stir. All of which are rather basic skills they they should have, and you can call them out on it.

^Am I forgiven for my sin if I tell you that I'm sipping on about 3/4 oz worth of E&J XO before I go to bed much later than I should be?

The first question out of his mouth was "what do you want in it?"

Iif they are busy the bartenders usually don't bother to take their time and measure out or do a precise job, at least at the places down here.

You know better than that.

Had some of the new Glenfarclas 40 last night. Amazing stuff. Dare I say worth the price even?

Last night was dinner w/ friends our place and several pours of Old Pogue rocks, then a bottle of 1999 Chalk Hill cab (meh) and Schramsberg M. Brut Rose, followed by coupla' Stoli and Fever Tree tonics during cleanup and finished then off a bottle of Taylor Fladgate 10yo tawny w/ desert. Was a fun night. All the booze went down fine, but obviously nothing terribly exceptional. Awaiting my bourbon shipment.
