They used to do it like that, that's the reason why I placed the shoes quite early.

It is also possible, those shoes were made by Edward Green for JLP (before the factory in Oliver Street became JL & CO, it used to be EG.)

That is an old Russell that was produced in the late 80s to early 90s at Crocket and Jones for Hermes. Extremely rare. Real stuff alright.

I have been in this trade for 8 years and I guarantee you all that that pair is real CJ made JLP for Hermes stores.

There are three, well, actually four, types of Lobb shoes, all of which are real.

Lobb St. James, bespoke only, made in London.

Lobb Paris bespoke, owned by Hermes, and...

Lobb ready-to-wear owned by Lobb Paris and made in Northampton, England. These have been made, in chronological order, by C&J, EG and for many years now in a factory wholly owned by Lobb/Hermes. Confusing? A bit. And...

The fourth are marked "Lobbs" with an "s" and are made in Japan. They are low quality, unafilliated with the three previously mentioned brands, yet they too are real in their own way. They rarely turn up but they're out there.

Bengal Stripe and others are correct in identifying the pair you asked about. Perhaps from as early as the 70s.

Not quite that old! - The first RTW collection by John Lobb, Paris hit the shops in 1986.

I was remembering the 1976 figure in Flusser's entry (Style and the Man). But he then goes on to give 1990 as the launch date in Paris of the rtw line, at least as a separate retail entity. I defer to your expertise- '86 sounds right.

I know Flusser mentions it in "˜Style and the man'. 1976 is the year Hermes bought the Paris branch from John Lobb. Then they prepared with almost military planning the RTW collection, I'm pretty certain it was "˜86, the collection was introduced. (It was only 1982 when John Hlustik bought the run-down Edward Green factory.)

Of course, if I were a better organized person, I just could simply check the dates in Flusser.
But I can't find my copy right at the moment.
