I did... it was great. So, the guy couldn't cook, but he knew how to make an experience for diners and hire a chef that could live up to what he was trying to build. I doubt Drew Nioperent or Jeff Chodorow could make a PBJ sandwich either.

to a certain extent, he shouldn't have to. i mean, i've been to a ton of restaurants where the owner had little more going for him than 3 dishes, charm and an ability to run a good small organization. and i've been much happier most times than someplace where the owner has a boatload of skills, wild ideas and absolutely no idea how to run a business. of course, that's not what top chef is necessarily all about.

drew's a decent enough cook. chodorow, nope. and that's also a criticism that's been leveled at alice waters, with only a certain amount of validity.

Agreed. He is very old school Italian, which I think contributes to why he is so successful.

I especially liked the part of the documentary where they were all eating at McDonalds. A nice juxtaposition.

She's got one friggin' restaurant. She better be able to cook. THe others, at least, have empires.

I've heard that Alice Waters can cut fresh produce and plate it beautifully almost on par with the Eataly Vegetable Butcher. The only difference is, she cries over each carrot as she slides her blade through it.

What exactly is this abomination of a show about anyway?

The point of CE is discussion. You were supposed to be a universal lover, I thought.

I just don't get the show. I've only watched a few times, though. I don't really like this generation of food on TV, though I loved the 80s-90s stuff.

The food is totally secondary. It's more like watching Real Housewives.
