I voted for navy worsted - it would be more versatile, season-wise, than flannel, and allow you more options for accessorization than chalkstripe.

Beyond that, I just prefer navy to charcoal

.

Whichever you choose, I am sure that it will be handsome.

+1.

But what will this suit be used for? If it's for business the navy chalkstripe would be a good choice too.

And go with a 2-piece. 3-piece DB suits aren't necessary unless you have no heating.

x2. A 3 piece DB seems a little crazy.

(re)Start a trend: Flannel 3 piece. Color of your choice. Turn down the heat at home, make her nipples salute you. -S.

Navy worsted in my opinion. As it is your first DB, I think that it would be the most versatile. I believe Manton said a while ago that he often wears his Navy DB for those occasions that call for less than black tie. I like that idea.

Agree. Actually I have a glen plaid db that gets more wear than anything else.
