Were button flys invented so people dont leave their zipper open?

I don't get this - if its a zipper you have to remember to zip up, if its a button fly you have to remember to button up - what the hell do the buttons have to do with remembering to fasten your pants back up after peeing?

Is the OP 8 years old?

Repeating one thing 5 or 6x is easier than remembering to do two separate things.

maybe so, but nothing sexier than when a girl rips your pants open.

I piss so much everyday that it's normal for me to forget here and there (once every 1-2 hours); this is due to me drinking a lot of water. Hence, I like buttons more.

do most people with zip fly button their button first, and then zip up?

if so, you could even go so far as to say that the downward "away from your body" motion necessary to grab at the zipper is, in a body language sense, too extroverted to be conducted around one's genitalia. a sequence of several fastenings that protect your ********, beginning away from your core and proceeding toward it, is more assuring and, as a result, habit-forming. we could even do an experiment... too bad Imma use our grant money to buy some 3sixteens fuckyeah.

I think the major thing at play is the fact about the ease of repeating a motion several times compared to the difficulty of starting and stopping two different motor programmes in sequence. many buttons may simply be more 'automatic' and require less conscious control.

i like them because almost all raw denim comes with buttons, and raw denim you size down. when you size down with a zipper the zipper constantly comes undone until they fit right, with buttons this isnt possible.

Really? I find a button fly easier and faster to open than a zip fly when I gotta go. Just rip it open in one motion.

Takes longer to close, though.

i dont get it, for me button fly is so much easier to get off quick. undo the top button then pull, and they all pop open. trying pulling a zipper apart makes it stick. edit- damn left the window open for too long before i replied, beat by 9 minutes D:

I go with buttons on all of my jeans...but to open, I just open the first and then pull and they all pop open. Would this still work with dress pants buttons and button holes?

with my dress pants (all zip up), I do not undo the belt or the top button...I just undo the zipper and pull it out.

I think another part of it is that when you just unzip you don't unbutton the top button so your pants are still fastened at the top but with buttons you have to unbutton them all and if you start walking around it will be much more obvious your pants are open.

Has been discussed many times before, zips are quicker and easier.

Ha, are you implying that this is a solved question? Is there a peer-tested study somewhere?
