Were button flys invented so people dont leave their zipper open?

I think I have one pair of jeans w/ zipper fly and whenever I wear them I forget to zip up after peeing about half the time. So freaking embarrassing. With button fly I never have this problem.

Before the rudeness begins, allow me to remind you that buttons pre-date zippers.

I think it's so the woman/man you're with has one last chance to reconsider their next move...

That's just old age. First you forget to zip up, then you forget to zip down.

Button fly's are sturdier than zippers, which is a plus with workwear.

This is part of the reason I almost completely eschew zip fly pants. I'm pretty sure I did this on New Years Eve (the last time I wore zip fly pants) before I even went out.

Needless to say, I switched over to my Sams and was GTG. And FTD. Albeit in PHL.

Button flys tent a lot less when you sit. With a zip you've got a single line of consistent tension. With buttons it isn't forced to make a single curve, so it collapses into a much more natural shape.

I can't help think of that scene from There's Something About Mary. Never came close to have that happen to me, nevertheless I feel so much safer with buttons flies.
