Were button flys invented so people dont leave their zipper open?

I think I have one pair of jeans w/ zipper fly and whenever I wear them I forget to zip up after peeing about half the time. So freaking embarrassing. With button fly I never have this problem.Originally Posted by jsallen10

Button fly's are sturdier than zippers, which is a plus with workwear.

This is part of the reason I almost completely eschew zip fly pants. I'm pretty sure I did this on New Years Eve (the last time I wore zip fly pants) before I even went out.
