I like Foo threaks. The trainwrecks that aways occur in them are more attributable to the irrational idiocy that his threaks inspire in others. A Foo threak is always good for information though and for then entertainment value from the FDS crowd.

When I initially posted the link, the OP had actually posted pictures of human feces smeared on a car's windshield. He took them down since but that was pretty raw, even for DT - and it's not even in DT.

Yes and no. I agree that Foo is not necessarily to blame for the shitshows that usually accompany his threads. But he has a hand in perpetuating them, be it intentional or unintentional. His willingness to entertain any and all rabble rousers with a protracted fight only inspires more rabble rousing. It's the classic case of the kid on the playground who keeps getting teased because his teasers can always get a reliable rise out of him. To whatever extent Foo has not yet realized his complicity in the flame wars that follow him, he's going to ensure more flame wars in the future.

That said, Foo is a bright and interesting and iconic persona on SF. I greatly enjoy his presence here, and I always manage to learn a thing or two from his posts. And frankly, his threads end up working on at least three levels: they're part education, part anthropological curiosity, and part entertaining trainwreck.

For better or for worse, that's just how he is wired. He is not everyone's cup of tea, but I hardly think he's a menace or a detriment to the level of discourse on SF.
