An easy going 4 miles this morning. Temp: 18 degrees, but no wind. I've tried YakTrax but hate them--especially when I hit dry pavement. With my regular shoes, I have no problem running on snow; I use a shorter stride. I just use lots of caution when running on ice. I just try to avoid it. Cannot say enough about the the Icebreaker bottoms I purchased last week. They are pricey, but they should last a long time.

What do you like most about the Icebreaker pants? I have several pairs of pants I've received from school but would be willing to buy a pair if they're worth it. Running without anything is alright and I've done it before. However, my stabilizer muscles get quite the workout. Surprisingly I've only fell a handful of times. 12/21/10 - 60 minutes with 20 easy, 20 moderate, 20 hard. It was a solid run; closed the last 3 miles in 15:33 with a 4:58 last mile. I'm getting back into shape, slowly but surely. Almost another month of training until my next indoor meet. -Edit, thought I'd share a website/discount code with you all. http://www.runningwarehouse.com/disc...pcode=flotrakd Runningwarehouse is my absolute favorite running store, already low prices, free 2 day shipping, and a great selection. No, I'm not affiliated but I figured some of you may not be aware of it.

Damn dude, you are crazy fast....next level fast.
Runningwarehouse-I agree, I also have a code that will give you a discount at any time (stolen from runnersworld forums).
What distance do you compete at?

Sam you doing any Ultra's this year?

Im looking at the Ice Age 50 (will wuss out and do the 50K not 50 miles) and the North Face Endurance Challenge, both races are on the same trail in WI.

My brothers are both doing White River 50 in WA, but there is no way I can train for vertical gain like that race requires.

Here is a link to the Icebreaker website: http://www.icebreaker.com/site/icebr..._leggings.html

I wear a pair of brooks shorts over the bottom base layer. As the description states, the fabric breathes well. No odor. The fit is perfect and comfortable. They keep my legs plenty warm. When the temperature dips below 20, I wear them. I've worn similar products from Patagonia and LL Bean. They are good, also. But, for me, the Icebreaker fit is the best.

@antirabbit - I am actually waiting til Jan 1 to try and get into a particular 50miler in the hills east of SD - the elevation is not to crazy and it is near to Orange County where I live. I am really stoked to get going on them - I think that they will be an area where I can excel a bit more than in the classic road race.
For now I am trying to stay focused and go for a 3:00 pr in Feb (that is wishful thought)
but next up: ultra
the North Face runs all look really well organized and awesome.
Also:
Ran on treadmill today: do not recommend!
logged 10k in 40:04 then a couple of miles outside for 9 total. I sweat an abhorent amount when I run indoors.

Indoor running is an exercise in torture, which I also did today as I had the little ones. I did about 5 miles, 5% grade the whole way and just cranked on 7.2 mph, I had to put a sweat band on and have a towel nearby. Also a fan and its only like 38 degrees in my basement.
Why is it so hard?
Good luck on the 50 miler lottery.

For the last race of the season, and not feeling it at all, pretty well--I stayed very consistent the whole time and finished in 1:03:33 or something. About 6:50/mile.

Did a fun workout today, but I'm just trying to keep training to maintenance for a couple months, then start ramping up mileage again once the weather gets good. I have some goals for myself for 2011 that will be difficult (for me) to reach.

And, you are totally ******* soft. Come run somewhere cold.

Thanks, I'm a 1500/mile specialist though I get suckered into everything from 4x400 duty to 10k in XC. And there are plenty faster though I'm working towards it. I agree on the indoor running, I cannot stand treadmills for any real length of time. The only way I've been able to handle it is by running a fartlek, mile repeats, etc. I have to play around with the pace and intervals to break up the monotony. I also tend to check the watch/odometer(?) way too frequently, which certainly doesn't help.

Thanks, I'll have to check those out. I don't really have any heavy pairs of tights. A good pair of tights is a must, I've had cheaper pairs with terrible seams...makes running miserable.

Man, this has been a rough week between school, Christmas, and sickness. Today I trudged out 6.7 miles in 51 and change.

This morning's run sucked. I really can't stand the treadmill.

3.39 miles in 30:00 (avg. 8:51 min/mi)

Today's shuffle playlist:

King Crimson - "Starless"
Led Zeppelin - "Carouselambra"
The Beatles - "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey"
Opeth - "Windowpane"

Since writing my first reply, I happened to visit the local Moosejaw store and saw an Icebreaker zip top, and rather than buying the nice bow tie I planned to wear for Christmas Eve, I purchased the top instead. I can't believe it is wool. I just finished a run in a moderate 30 degree temperature. I was comfortable and perfectly warm with just the Icebreaker top and a running shirt over it. This Icebreaker wool is luxury plus. No scratchy feeling; a perfect fit. Very, very, very pricey, but, in the long run, worth the expense IMO. I like the zip neck. I still want the bow tie.

Hah, it's easy to be soft on the conditions when you're in California. Pretty ideal conditions year round from what I've been told.

12/22/10 - 60 min. with 5x 30/30 on the grass track; felt great to run fast. Majority of the 60 min. was ~6:45 miling.
