You should have asked to test out a horsewhip. As a representative, she'd be happy to submit to the testing, no?

Idiots working at super high end retail store...shocking!

Idiots working at our nations airports...acceptable.

That sucks Matt. You speak French yes? I'd call Paris directly. Joyeux Noel.

Sounds like Hermes to me.

I'm sure she was equally dumbfounded that you spoke English.

Well before you gave up, I would have declined to give them my business.

my sympathies for the less than intelligent SA experience. It is generally true, however, that placing a special order at Hermes is not as simple as walking in off the street, picking a model/style you like, asking for the leather book and placing an order. It's my impression there are a limited number of special order/bespoke items that can be placed in a given year at the "podium" and not just anyone qualifies to get a slot; these are saved for long term customers. I think you have to establish a relationship with a senior SA over a few years, and then maybe she'll offer you a special order if there's something you want that they can't find for you. At least this was the case with my gf, who was only able to order stuff after buying several purses from the same SA over many years. At the mother ship in Paris it may be different, but I think it is still pretty much true that you can't just walk in off the street and place a bespoke order. I am also not sure how eager they are to accept special orders for small items like a breast wallet.

Yes special ordering any leather goods from Hermes is very complicated. They are very sensitive to what they make. For example, certain bags can be had only in specific colors etc. and unless you have some clout, they may refuse to make you one in different color or material. No excuse for failure to explain the system to you.
