Engineer boots are good; steel toed engineer boots are bad- for cold weather. Steel gets cold. So the Red Wing 2268s are out. Perhaps the American-made Chippewa engineers would work.They are stylish without being common, and are readily available without a steel toe, in brown or black, and can be found for $150 or less anytime. Most of them also have a Vibram traction sole without the lugs, so tracking snow indoors is not as much of a problem.
