before Indiana jones came out, the boots were probably call 405's.

so Will,

the original Indy's with the cotton duck lining are 405's (these are what you have). Current 405's have the same "waxed cowhide" leather but have a leather lining on the inside.

The 403's are part of the new line that are made with brown "chrome excel" leather. Which some people may prefer.

To answer your question, the only difference is the outer leather. Otherwise they are the same boot and should fit the same. With that being said, it seems that every Alden dealer has their own version of the the Indy boot in countless combination of leathers and soles, if you check out the list of Alden dealers that was made recently, you can find something even more special if you'd like.

MiniW,

Thanks very much for the quick and kind reply. Great to know the differences between these two models ! Much appreciated.

Best regards,

Hey guys, need some help. Anyone here wear size 8D in Indy boots? If you do, could you please do me a big favor and provide measurements of the boots. I am trying to figure out sizing. I currently have Indys in 8.5D, but am considering going down to 8D, and boot measurements would certainly be a HUGE help.

Thanks in advance.

Mine look like 11.8 in length x 4.25 at the widest point. I hope that helps a little bit.

That certainly does help, thanks. One last question though, how did you measure? Across the bottom, along the side, etc.?

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Hey guys,

I got a nasty scratch on chromexcel ultimate indy's and was wondering if there is anything I can do to cover this up? The scratch is around the toe area and about 2 inches long. Any input is appreciated.

Try laying a warm, moistened cloth across the scratch. Should cause the crushed grain to re-plump. Buff when dry.

(not sure if this type of post is allowed, but if it is not, someone let me know and I will modify/delete it)

Just a heads up for all you Alden fans. . .I have put up a bunch of footwear on eBay including 3 pairs of Alden boots size 12D. I have lost a lot of weight lately, and now have moved down a size, so I am starting their bids pretty cheaply, and hoping to sell them quickly since I have three new pairs of Alden Shell on their way to me (in a smaller size).

To find them just search for my Alden Natural Chromexcel Indy on eBay, and then click to see my other items.

And as a thank you for everyone who has posted information/pictures on this thread, and for all the Alden fans on here, if you win any of my footwear auctions, just request an invoice from me after winning and write me a note letting me know your SF name and I will WAIVE SHIPPING!!!

WP just got back to me and confirmed that the price is indeed still $435 for their reverse chamois boots

Feet get smaller when one loses weight?

That's nice of them. I think $460-495 is where the current retail price should be for a crepe soled boot.
