I have accepted the fact that I need a job, sometime in the future and preferably sooner rather than later. I graduated college with a BBA in Economics from a crappy state school. Never really had a choice because my grandparents, parents, and siblings are all alumni. It's a small town thing. Anyway, education is what you make of it. I'm 22 now and don't have much to offer in a traditional sense. I paid my way though completely by myself; tuition, living expenses, books, car. Everything.

I had an internship with a local bank and was introduced to most positions that weren't executive level. It was a great experience. Everyone was really friendly and I have a few great references out of it. But I quit after I graduated (6 months ago) for some reason.

Most money came from online poker though. I could make 1-4k per month depending on how much I played, and how much stress I could tolerate. That's what I'm doing now to live. Online poker is the most mentally draining thing I have ever done. After a long session my mind is fried and I'm worthless for a few hours. I would say '*******' and live off that but I'm not making what I want, and I'm not good enough to move up limits. And for those who are not familiar, a winning player at NL100 is better than probably 97% of the players online. It's kinda a big deal.

My stock trading I believe is also relevant. Since April of '08, when I started, I have had a stupid good return. I have only trade financial stocks so maybe I was a bit lucky along the way but I was killing it when things were bad too. Trading is a common endpoint for poker players because many of the skills are transferable. Also you need some money to start, which poker provides.

It feels like my degree is close to worthless at this point, and honestly it's not like we learned enough applicable stuff where Econ undergrad majors have an purpose. I made a 720 on my GMAT after studying for about two weeks. Probably did a little better than expected. I'm not even sure I could get in a good grad school with that though, with my ****** education and limited work experience. And I don't know if I could pay for it even if I did get accepted. I would prefer to not have 80k debt coming out of it :/

The best job I could realistically get would probably pay 35k, and I've turned down two after they offered my 30. I'm gonna be in Houston, so I could live off of that but would be poor. **** that.

^ This is very similar to what I want although I have absolutely zero chance of being offered a position. It's just frustrating.

At this point I think getting my Master's is the only option. It feels like I'm gonna be a broke student for a couple of years, then reevaluate my situation. What do you guys think?

Also I'm probably the best soccer player you have ever seen, seriously. I got cut from the Olympic Development Program when I was 16 and never tried again. What a terrible ******* program that was.

And I can punt a fooball ~55 yards every time, so if any of you are MLS or NFL scouts lets hook it up haha

It sounds to me like you're a chronic bum who will put off getting a real job by doing a Masters, then Doctorate then having a mental breakdown at how the world doesn't appreciate you.

Man the **** up. Take a job paying $30K. Keep playing your poker and up that to ~$33k. Be good at your job and get a promotion.

No one gets anything handed to them, and a masters degree will just make you over-qualified for the entry level jobs and the good jobs will want experience. There's a damn good chance of making your life more difficult.

Eh I see what your saying. Bum may be a bit harsh though. I mean, I worked 37+ hrs/week, took 15+ hrs of school, and also captained the soccer team. I can handle a chaotic schedule, I'm am still 22 after all.

And I totally understand that I have little to offer employers in terms of my education. I haven't figured out how to market myself successfully. Is there any point trying to talk about all that **** ie everything but work experience/education?

lol. You have the mind of a calculator and the heart of a ******* fridge. I had a friend in college who graduated, went to Vegas, came back in a semester and a half with a Lapis Blue Turbo cabriolet, but that guy had more money to start with because his dad was throwing a little money at him. Best case scenario, it's never 100% man, so I guess if you can live with that, then all power to you, but **** gambling 'professionally' because that **** doesn't exist.
I was playing roulette this summer, was way up, could go home every night (as in going day after day) with a new grand on 2 bills in, but one night I met these three Japanese guys at a roulette table; one guy tried hitting on my girlfriend by showing her his little spreadsheet table book he was recording per game and told her he was a 'samurai spirit' and talked all this **** about being a professional gambler around Asia and how Seoul casinos were so easy to win in, and then he proceeded to lose like $600 in the next 10 minutes after that, and suddenly disappeared. lol.

Anyway, I don't believe in needing to hack away at useless expensive courses for degrees if you have talent at something, but you gotta have something you like, so get to the source of that and start asking for your money, rather than being a paying pawn.

I know very well where you are at. I was in your same boat a few years ago. I would not do the Master's route. That's what I did. Leaves you with more debt. Work and make a few bucks, play poker on the side (hell, it's fun too), and try to work your way up. I wish I would've taken my own advice back in the day.

Dude there was probably 3 months where I put every ounce of myself into other forums, experimenting with my play, perfecting the craft. I honestly think I am 'topped out'. If I played 40 hours a week I might make 4k over a month. Hell, I have had losing months too. It's mind-numbing and not fun for me in the least unless I'm at a casino. I need a job

I completely understand what your saying. I'm just having trouble marketing my strengths. Does this crap belong a resume?

You have to pay your dues. 30k is an entirely reasonable salary for someone with no experience. Be good at it, build experience, and you'll rise through the ranks and make significantly more in a while.

How about trying to get into the NFL as a backup punter then taking all the star players' money playing poker?
