She's been here long enough. She obviously gets it enough to not leave just because the amount of underutilized testosterone here happens to peak. If she leaves, it will be due to boredom, getting a real life, forgetting, drug addiction, whatever - the same reasons the rest of us will leave.

FWIW, I think Manton overreacted and I already told him that. However, I also think Metro deserved the time out. I got one for nearly the exact same scenario with SteveB back in the day where he freaked out in a similar way on some offhanded comment I made. So it's not like there's no precedent. Talking about other people's family is not acceptable and it literally causes some people to completely lose their ****. That's why we don't do it.

I could add to the 'pls don't go Manton' chorus (and I really look up to him and he knows it) and all the other issues brought up (MS keep pushing his I'm-a-dick persona, questioning DT's existence, the luv for Thomas...) but it won't help... today is a sad day for SF. ****.

That is not the point. This is the point:

But that's all we can settle for and accept as appropriate punishment.

And for all the idiots who pretend they're above all this and everyone should be, stop acting like you're cool - sometimes you need to remember there's someone behind that avatar and username and despite many trying to create a persona that is meant to supercede their real person, the reality is that it is a real person acting like this. And it is real people they're talking about.

yeah I know internetz serious bizness!1! LoLz.. we get it

I have long been surprised at the lax moderation here at SF. Other boards that I frequent are far, far more heavily moderated, with very beneficial effects to the quality of the discourse. A good start to getting rid of the worst trolling on here could perhaps be to subject all newly registered members to a sort of "quarantine", a short period of time during which their posting rights are withheld. This way, we would be relieved of all that nonsense of banned people re-registering and immediately taking up their old ways.

FWIW, I too admire Manton (I even have his book
colgate.gif
) and wish for him to reconsider his decision.

Although things like this can happen from time to time, what you call "lax" moderation here is one of the reasons the site is so good.

I think they are more of a "benevolent socialist" kinda place.

I'm fairly convinced you're mistaken, not that my views matter.

Those are reasonable points, but obviously one can deplore or be disappointed by what happened without reaching the conclusion that stricter or more active moderation is needed or would be for the best. I for one generally enjoy -- albeit sometimes in the way I enjoy a spectacular car crash or pennant race beanball war -- the the relatively unmoderated vibe here. I understand why people like RJMan and Manton might choose to leave, and am/will be sorry to see each of them go. But I think it's possible that in a more tightly regulated space many of the personalities I have come to "know" here would never have developed or become evident but for the often digressive, free-associative -- and dumb -- nature of many of the threads. The bitter with the sweet, and all that.

How one could decide that they would rather spend time reading MetroStyles then Manton or RJMan is beyond me.

I'd rather read all three than any combination involving two of them.

Personally i like the mod team here ~pause~ Most of the true diehard trolls here do get decimated, and the other light trolling that occurs is nothing that an ADULT should get stressed over. Seriously its the ******* internet. Plus this whole ****** a 5 yr old thing is marsupialed. Mantons post came across like his daughter was grown, and Metro responded in kind. Not defending Metro, but Manton has nothing to ***** about either. You dont want your kids brought up than you dont bring them up. Period.

I'm fairly convinced that Manton's seniority and his promise to quit the forum (at least the third since I started counting -- not sure why it's being taken seriously) are why the chips fell as they did.

OK well, you are in luck then. I am self-banning. You always struck me as a prick. Nice to see that confirmed.

You old men are pitiful. Manton's 5yo daughter has thicker skin than all of you combined to a google. <3 Rambo though. Also, the "I'm leaving and never coming back! .... I'm back" by Manton is hilarious, way to stick to your guns.

Read what I wrote above. I will make limited comments in this thread for a while, but that's it.

Right, so majority opinion here is "boo-yah brah!1!" to Metro and "man up ***" to me. Confirms that I made the right decision. This place is not for me. If this is the way you guys want it, you can have it.

God damn it Manton. You know full well that this is neither the majority or the minority position. Its the position of a select few. Period.
