can anyone recommend any good online shops that sell formal trousers? Anything similar to what TM Lewin or H&C do for shirts?

Why would you? If you have the suit/jacket it'll have a size tag.

If you worry if it'll fit then the "size" doesn't matter. I've got jackets +/- 1 size from my true size. I've got stuff one size bigger then my true size and it'll barely fit.

If you have the jacket try it on.

There isn't one. When you say smaller in what way? The chest? The shoulders? The length? Chest size has varied with what the fashion is. Shoulders vary with pattern. Some makes make narrower shouldered stuff. Length also varies between companies. One more potential problem is it's a 46. At some point the companies start thinking the wearer isn't a true size but is a bit chubby. So they make the chest big enough for a 46 but make don't size up everything else. http://www.suitupp.com/pages/suit_sizing You can try that but there is no reason to expect anybody else to match them.

What do bespoke tailors do with returned goods and pieces that clients don't pick up? I've seen altered suits/shirts at department store sales at heavy clearance, but have you heard of tailors selling returned/never picked up clothes?

Hello. I recently bought a military trenchcoat but I'm not sure I feel happy with the way it fits. The coat's shoulder marks are about 1.2" (3cm) beyond my shoulder bone and I think the coat should stop right below the knee, not so much middleways between the knee and the foot. The sleeve's lining goes about 0.8" (2cm) beyond the wrist. I know this kind of coat is supposed to be worn over other warm clothing and not so close to the body, but I don't wear that much clothing volume, and I would like to reduce the amount of tissue under the armpits and around the waist/chest/shoulders but still reaching bellow the knee and without giving the impression of wearing a miniature trenchcoat, because that is not my goal. I would like this coat to have an elegant fitting more than a heavy fitting. This one is size M from the website (46N is written on the coat) and they also sell S, L and XL. Macy's is having a one day sale tomorrow and their club room cashmere v neck sweaters are going to be on sale for $59, worth it? I can't afford BB or RL. Is the cashmere that low of quality?

Does the button stance change on a long jacket, compared to a regular jacket; If I was a regular and got a long jacket, could I simply take of the 2inches..?

Can I take in the sides of this suit jacket? everything else fits perfectly. The tailor that altered the suit for me says she can't take in the sides anymore without ruining the fit.

In my opinion the suit doesn't lend itself to be taken in that much. It'll ruin the proportions of the jacket because the arms are too wide for such a tight cut. They are also a bit long, which you might want to address regardless of whether you have it tightened a bit or not.

Can someone comment on the quality of Gran Sasso and its fit?

Thanks. I definitely want a tighter fit but it looks like I'm out of luck. The arms definitely need to be shortened.

I'm getting hitched and decided to go the way of the black suit instead of a tux. I'm looking for a pair of shoes to buy that'll last and look good (and a suit actually but that's another matter).

Would the Peal & Co perforated cap toe bal's or wingtips be appropriate? I'm hesitant about anything perforated being formal enough. What about loafers? Yes, I'm looking to take advantage of the BB sale today...
