Any advice on what kind of jacket would work for a pre-interview dinner, and where to get it? Planning to wear jacket and no tie. All will be in winter. Need to be a little conservative but still stand out as better dressed than the average attendee. Probably will wear some Howard Yount wool pants (tan pick and pick or brown). Any suggestions welcome (or if you know one for sale, that too...thanks). 38 short.

And where? NYC investment banker or Bay Area social media? Very different expectations when it comes to proper attire.

If this is for residency interviews, you should just dress casually. Don't overdress.

Not exactly a typical residency interview. And for those, dressing casual is good for some specialties and not for others.

I guess you think I'm talking about how elite my specific interview is, which is in no way the case. It's really a different kind of situation that I don't feel the need to discuss in detail, and I'm not a medical student.

A typical presumptuous asshole, making the assumption you want so you can throw in a sassy remark that you must think is quite clever. Hope you're enjoying yourself, cruising online forums with no purpose except to be a jerk.

Either for residency or fellowship pre-interview dinner is casual where you'll meet residents or fellows in a relaxed athmotsphere. Having been there, on both sides, I can tell you that don't try to over do it ... Or you'll come across as a pretencious ass ... Last thing they'll wan to see in a prospective resident. Finally, remember that none of these guys can get you in your dream program, but the program director will listen to them...and if they think you're an ass he'll know

Need more details to help you. Without it, can't really help you. Share a bit more that you are comfortable with. Lots of people on this forum are regular interviewers/ recruiters in many industries.

Glad you decided to provide enough information for this forum to help you. Since you've posted the above, good luck...
