this guys dad was basically lower class, 50 years ago he was selling snuff out of a stand on a street corner. on the way up, he really did help millions of indians - he was the first company to allow individuals to buy shares in his company in india, and a lot of very poor people invested and made money. I was in mumbai for his father's funural, and the whole city closed down for 3 days. the family made their money in polysters and pretrochmicals, and then moved into telecomunications, hospitals, supermarkets and other retail

somebody asked - the house is in a good nieghborhood in Mumbai. apartments there run very high priced.


several years ago, I sold a big project to the company, and worked, very remotely, with Mukesh - effectively, I presented to him a few times, and had a few negotiating meetings with him. it is unbelievable how many people came out of the woodwork to offer to help me close the deal with him, effectivly people who claimed that they could influence him for a bribe. I didn't use any of them,

Are those the people you told to have him wear a certain color tie? If they could have persuaded you that they had influence would you have used a bribe?

yes, exactly - I told everyone who offered me the service that if they could get Mokesh to wear a specific tie on a specific day I would do business with them. nobody took me up on it.
