Any good? I see some by AF Gros and Potel at my store - never tried the former and had very bad luck with the latter.

Btw, don't worry about the varietal.

It was 100% baco and 13% marechal foch - that's pretty standard for prole burg right?

Let me quickly inform you on this: first, don't get hung up on the varietal. Second, use of baco is indicative the Burg is from Ontario.

Is that wine malolactically macerated with carbonics? I assume it is since it's the norm for Ontario Burgs.

For me and my ducal relatives it has always been about the 'terroir' you see. Ontario burgundies have that rich peaty soil with tropical overtones which really benefits grape and coconuts. Shanken can't possibly appreciate this... The carbonics don't enter into it as the wines are racked in a perfect vacuum.

Yes, I love the Gros. What are they charging for it?

I am with you on Potel. Terrific reputation, I have not liked what I have had recently.

Ugh - $85 for the 2005 in this socialist paradise. I won't be buying that.

Should I get this 2005 Bordeaux from the Carrefour supermarkets? It's price is almost 15euro/$20, is it something that could turn out as high quality?
I don't have a cellar by the way.

pic from iphone, I could take a better shot if needed

^^ Yes, try it. Totally worth the minimal risk. Likely to be decent and maybe even good.

With Thanksgiving I served the same $7.99 (whoops, $10.99 these days) wine that I always serve: Fetzer Gewurtztraminer. It was a little sweeter than I remember or would have liked, but it went well with the meal as it always has. Not much tackles cream, sausage, gravy, sweet potatoes, and uncooked cranberry relish well.

The Raventos ended up being a great recommendation. We did a blind tasting with two proseccos and a sparking gruner vetliner (!) and the cava was the clear winner. With the Thanksgiving leftovers we had a Bedell North Fork Cabernet Franc which was quite good, a Joel Gett Zinfandel that was not worth getting again and a couple bottles of Beajolais.

Had some Far Niente 2007 Estate Bottled Chardonnay tonight. Well, had several wines, but this one I remembered. Highly recommended.

Haven't had the 2007, but have loved all of the Far Niente Chards that I've tried.

Yes, was very good. Just the right combo of oak and malo. We had a few glasses of it with some scallops and basil risotto, lobster poached in truffle oil, big eyed tuna, and some nice pieces of Dungeness crab.

When we first got there, Oregon Pinots for the tasting with some charcuterie.
