Last-worditis is fueled by a condition I call "error intolerance". People cannot see something they consider wrong without commenting on it, possibly because they feel their silence would be interpreted as affirmation. While this 'affliction' basically is the secret behind Wikipedia's success, in a forum such as this, it naturally leads to last-worditis.

For those suffering from last-worditis, the practice of not commenting on something one perceives as blatantly wrong, and letting an opponent have the last word may feel awkward at first, but is ultimately immensely liberating. Try it.

Very simple.
Just don't reply when you feel a heated discussion is building up. Let the other person have the last word.
At first, it will feel like letting him win. This feeling can be overcome by murmuring "you win the internets" 5 times in a row. Later, this feeling will subside and be replaced by a solid "whatever".
At first, try topics you don't really care about, 3 times a day. Then advance to more at-heart topics.
If it's not better in a week, take two aspirins and post here the next morning.

That is just a way of masking the symptoms while ignoring the cause.

The first step in healing is to chill out, loosen the stick out of one's ass, and hopefully over time become less of an insufferable know-it-all.
