Is a chukka a good first boot?

I didn't want a dress boot because it would look like a dress shoe with the pants over the top part.

I didn't want a work boot cause it would be too bulky.

I didn't want a chelsea boot cause it looks creepy.

I settled on a chukka for the time being.

Is a chukka a good choice? Any other suggestions?

The balmoral boot has a lot of laces, I don't want to re-do them every time I wear them.

Wingtip derby boot. These look like dress shoes if the top is covered up with a pair of pants. I think I would prefer something that doesn't look like a pair of dress shoes.

It sounds like you don't want a boot. How about an Indy boot? Or Red Wing Gentleman Travler?

I have a balmoral boot, I never have to undo the laces.

Also, wingtip derby, technically not a dress shoe.

What is your reasoning for wanting a boot at all?

Indy boot, they look too rugged and workboot-like.

redwing gt. They look like clown shoes. And they look too rugged and workboot-like.

How would you put your foot in the boot without undoing the laces. and redoing them afterwards? Chukkas have less lace holes, I would have a faster time with them.

Easy, get them made without "speed laces" and with regular eyelets.

As Harvey said, why is it that you want boots, if well, you don't like boots?

speed laces? you mean these? they look terrible. As for boots, how else would I walk in the snow without getting my socks wet?

Speed laces are the hooks at the top of the boot that undo themselves when you untie the boot.

Do yourself a favor so you won't be unhappy. Stick to whatever it is your wearing right now, wait a few years and then rethink boots.

Then what will I wear this winter?

What do you think about these chukka boots?

Yeah, chukkas that most resemble dress shoes are the best ones for the first boot.

If you are looking for a boot to keep your socks dry, particularly if you plan on ever walking in snow, then you may want something more formidable than a chukka.

There are boots that are waterproof and classic, such as the Vasque Sundowner GTX (preferably in burgundy), which utilizes Gore-tex and is reasonably priced.

Other than that, I would say that the Style Forum standard response would be the Alden Indy, which you precluded in an earlier message.

I agree that Red Wing and Gorilla boots are a bit much.
