I highly recommend the tailor from Alandales in Culver City. His name is Aby, although I'm not sure how to spell it. He's on the more expensive side and takes a while, but his work is simply perfect. And I'm as obsessive-compulsive about clothes as people get... You can tell him Andrey sent you if you wish. We're on good terms. http://www.alandales.com/tailor.php Also, Charles from Beverly Hills seemed like a very knowledgeable tailor, although I ended up not working with him. Edit: Aby did mention that shortening the sleeve from the shoulder is not the best idea, and he'll probably tell you that as well. However, I'm positive he will do an excellent job like he always does. It won't be cheap though.

Thanks for the recommendation. I gave him a call about my jackets and he said he was simply too busy to work on them. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Hi,
I've had Wilshire Tailors do about 10 suits for me. There are racks filled with Brioni, purple label, Isaia, Kiton, etc that have been finished. He also does other clothing items - I've seen a pair of Mabitex pants there, and some peoples shirts.
He is Eddie Murphys tailor - if that means anything - his suits seem to fit well.

About 250 or so for a complete suit alteration, but they fit perfect.
usually 1 week or so turn around time

Waiting to pick up my Martin Greenfield tuxedo that he should have just finished for me.

To be honest - I get so many compliments on my suits, that I doubt I'll use anyone else.

Are Paul Tailors and Charles Tailors different companies? I'm a little confused here. I've read on here many people recommend Paul and others Charles.

I purchased 2 OTR E. Armani suits that I'd love to get tailored. I usually go to Lizon tailors for small items but I don't know if he's ever done a "nicer" product.

Also, can someone let me know how much I'm looking at? Price doesn't matter but I'm curious to know how much LA "fine" tailors cost vs SF "fine" tailors.

They are different. Paul (Wilshire) speaks better English. I recommend him too. He's a suit surgeon.

Go to Eddie's Tailor Shop you won't be disappointed

115 E 8th St
Los Angeles, CA 90014

The service is great and the staff knows exactly what they are doing. Simple hems or alterations can be done, to my surprise, the same day and usually in less than an hour.

What would these tailors charge for say, hemming trousers?

I've used Mr. Lee, at 9038 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, until now, but on the last three suits I brought, I asked him to make a 1.75" cuff, several times, and he misunderstood. Upon my return, I let him know they were not what I ordered, and he promised to fix them. On my second return, the pants looked much the same, with a 1.5" cuff. It's all the more puzzling because he had done a 1.75" cuff for me before. Otherwise, I've been very satisfied. Lee charges $12 for hemming pants, another $10 to slim the leg, I believe $45 for lengthening sleeves, to give you an idea of his prices.

Anyone have any luck with this?

Think I won't even try Alandales, esp. if the turnaround is an eternity.

I just got a nice DB blazer on a nice discount but the sleeves are too long and have functional cuffs.

Maybe I'll try Paul. Went there before for another issue on a different suit and he turned me away though lol. I felt pretty stupid. Total waste of time. At least Rocco's is sorta tasty.

I posted this comment in another thread but I thought the information might be useful for someone looking for a tailor on the west side in LA.

"On a different note; I had a tailor here in Los Angeles on Wilshire Blvd. in West LA do some work on a Norman Hilton suit I bought from a member here. Her name is Mimma, 12041 Wilshire Blvd. (for those of you who know this part of town, it's Bundy/Wilshire next to the Ralphs.) She let out the pants in the waist and sides around the hip. And hemmed the pants. She also let out the sides and the back in the jacket because it was a little tight. She did awesome awesome work. She's an older woman who has this small shop in a little mall. She does all the work herself so it's not measure and hand it off to a worker. She's wonderful. It's like having your grandmother tailor your clothes.

I'm going back for sure and having more work done."

i took a suit to paul at wilshire tailor today. he suggested shortening the jacket sleeve to show the thinnest sliver of shirt cuff, but i wanted it shortened more. is there a reason to shorten it the way he suggested? i've never heard of anyone doing that.

All tailors have their own preference, but Paul will do what you want if you insist. I should say, the first time he shortened some shirt sleeves for me, I thought he wanted them too long and I insisted on half and inch shorter, and he ended up being right. Now I have two shirts with sleeves too short that can't be lengthened. But if you truly know what you want, just direct him and he'll do as you ask.
