about to buy some MTM dress shirts.

i'm a bit on the short side 5'8".

what collar for my shirts should I choose that are appropriate for my height or won't make me look shorter?

I understand regular pointed, but a small back or a large back of collar?
longer point or shorter point?

Can you please recommend what colour scarf to get?

I have a nice light brown tweed jacket which I generally wear with light blue/white button down shirt and dark blue jeans, dark brown shoes.

Does it have to be plain in colour or can it be a different style of tweed?
I had seen a few I like such as plain tan, blue/beige tartan, and a couple of brown tweeds.

What are you suggestions?

Many thanks

Owen

X posted this in an old thread I found, but...

Does anyone have a tailor they like/trust on the Upper West Side? I have some simple jobs (taking in pants, hemming) and a more complex one (taking in waist/shoulders of sports coat).

I've lost some weight and went from 42R to 40R and hope to salvage a few of my larger sports coats.

Waist went from 33 to 32 but no worries with split-back pants (and why you should always get them...).

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Looking at getting a 3rd AE shoe for fairly conservative business/business casual wear. I already have black PAs and dark brown FAs.

I was looking at getting either the Strand in the same dark burnished brown or the mcallisters in merlot. Thoughts?

It really depends on your neck's length and the shape of your face. If your neck is long, get a 2-button collar; if it's short, then get a lower height collar. Simple as that. As far as the collar shapes go, cut-away is a safe bet for everyone. Narrow collars work best for wider faces and vice versa. While the collar point length is very personal, it should really correspond to your shoulder and chest widths. Make it proportional to your body. I'd say 7cm for a cut-away is pretty standard. Also, one of the main concerns for me in cut-away and wide-spread collars is to make sure the collar point tucks under the suit lapels when the suit is buttoned. __________________________________- Question: Should I get a black gingham shirt from MT? I like the fabric, but I'm unsure if I ever will wear it. I need some group-think!

I passed up a chance to buy this Austin Reed puppytooth jacket for $130. It's now out of stock. Some of Austin Reed's tailored stuff is made by Chester Barrie. Is it unlikely that it would have been made by Chester Barrie? (Retail was $240)

Anyone know where I can get quality shoes (EG, C&J, Vass, etc) in Southern California? I hate the idea of buying online without trying them on.

I am 5"8 and weight 110. Where can I find an overcoat (preferably one that is above the knee) that is slim and is the right length?

There's a C&J store in Beverly Hills. Check it out.

Barneys carries C&J, at least the one in San Francisco. Saks carries John Lobb and I'm sure many others.
