Has JM Weston abandoned the US?

I have no knowlege from the "inside track" at the moment about this, but I will find out about this when I get the chance.

From experience delays (if this is indeed just a delay) of this kind are most often related to real estate issues as opposed to market issues. Both Lessees and Lessors are not ashamed to renegotiate contracts as the markets change, and failure to come to an agreement causes delays.

20 is a large number. Also the word "had" seems to imply you no longer have them.

Taken at face value, you are either implicitly saying that

option 1: they dont last
option2: you were forced to sell them
option 3: you are over 80 years old or started wearing them at age 4 ; on a short rotation
option 4: no rotation- you only had westons ever, and you are 50

I'm in my forties and I started buying them in my teens...

Calculate 2 pairs a year ...The ones lost ,destroyed,stolen and sold...

The last pair I bought was 8 years ago and I sold them because I started getting my Lobbs..

They were very solid but not that solid to keep them for 30 years shapeless..

They're great...

The 180s are great and certainly better quality than most of Church's offerings. I think most of the newer Weston models are a bit too "pimp" for my liking, but the latest loafer - the Claridge(?) is very tempting, even if I have sworn off Euro-pointy lasts.

The triple sole Chasse is an amazing shoe. Brutal-looking but quite a piece of work. According to the sales assistant (and allowing for a sprinkle of sales assistant magic pixie dust) only three people in their factory are capable of making the things and when they retire, adieu la chasse.

I never owned the Chasse, only the Demi-Chasse. Any idea the main difference between the 2 ?

It is a French brand with a near to cult status for the well-to-do Parisian teens...

They used to be the apanage of the jeunesse doree even if now more people are buying theirs shoes and the 180 in particular.

The golf,chasse,richelieu ,bottines were the main popular models 30 ,20 and even 10 years ago...

They're made in France, at least for the most part. Some lighter moccasin styles are made in Italy.

As Lasbar says, they were the fetish shoes for well-off French kids during the sixties-eighties... you come across stories about the rite of passage of your father buying you your first pair of Westons. More recently, they've become very popular with the sapeurs. These guys really know their stuff, one bloke from Senegal gave me a one-hour lecture on Westons when I was in the boutique.

The Weston Chasse is more expensive (â‚¬1100, I think). Very thick triple sole which I have heard takes a decade or so to break in ;-). You can see how the stitching differs from the Demi-Chasse here:
