I think the Bay Area is large and diverse enough for you to find enough things to appreciate and make you happy if you are open to it.

That being said, a place that has not been mentioned for a residence is Piedmont in the East Bay. But if I had to choose one place to live outside of San Francisco, it would be San Anselmo/Fairfax.

As far as the issue with the paucity of hot women, I have to agree. If you do find one, however, they will be most likely highly educated and career driven, but driven to the point that they will pop out a couple of babies and still work 40 hour work weeks.

My reaction to SF is that, like NYC, it is a place that requires sacrifices -- space, cost of living, etc. -- to live there, like NYC the locals are always talking about how wonderful it is in order to justify the pain they suffer in living in that setting.

But unlike NYC, SF doesn't have the benefits to justify the sacrifices. Really, it should be priced along the lines of Seattle or even Chicago (a more lively and humble city than SF, though with vastly worse weather).

I met up with an ex-New Yorker and asked him why the **** everyone was so nice. He replied, "It's nice to be nice." **** me.

I was blindsided by one line in a contract and am now royally fucked.
