I agree with Mr. Mencken

I think the Bay Area is large and diverse enough for you to find enough things to appreciate and make you happy if you are open to it.

That being said, a place that has not been mentioned for a residence is Piedmont in the East Bay. But if I had to choose one place to live outside of San Francisco, it would be San Anselmo/Fairfax.

As far as the issue with the paucity of hot women, I have to agree. If you do find one, however, they will be most likely highly educated and career driven, but driven to the point that they will pop out a couple of babies and still work 40 hour work weeks.

My reaction to SF is that, like NYC, it is a place that requires sacrifices -- space, cost of living, etc. -- to live there, like NYC the locals are always talking about how wonderful it is in order to justify the pain they suffer in living in that setting.

But unlike NYC, SF doesn't have the benefits to justify the sacrifices. Really, it should be priced along the lines of Seattle or even Chicago (a more lively and humble city than SF, though with vastly worse weather).

What's with the garbage on the streets?

Wanting a coffee, I'm sorry - "The best coffee in the country!" I stupidly got in line at some place called Blue Bottom or Blue Bird and had to listen the ******* chipper chick behind the counter greet everyone with a peppy "HI THERE!". After about 8 of those I left the line and looked for a Dunkin' Donuts. No luck.

Odd, my 25 years there were a very different experience. It's one of the three US cities in which I'd one to live.

SF never looks to New York for inspiration. San Francisto doesn't give a damn about NY. I say that having lived in both ... and currently owning a residence in both.

SF and Boston have very little to do with NYC, you are an idiot.

I think it is physically the most beautiful place in the world. The people are not nice but not overtly rude either. More like condescending.

In no particular order:

Cabs, if you can find one, are filthy with drivers who have no idea where they are going.
Homeless crack heads are insanely aggressive. I had to push a guy away from my wife. Next time I bring an axe.
Waiters are way too chummy and have no idea how do do their job. Look, pal - you are not part of our conversation; don't touch me when telling me the specials; and don't remove an empty plate until we're all finished. I finally had to tell a waiter to leave the plate and he looked at me like I killed his puppy.
There's garbage on the street.
The women look like men. Up close, ugly men.
The residents are like Stepford employees of the tourism board. "Oh, you'll love it here. Did you know you can ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon?" Look closely in their eyes, however, and what you see is a tinge of fear. As if they are trapped in the Billy Mumy Twilight Zone episode.

I met up with an ex-New Yorker and asked him why the **** everyone was so nice. He replied, "It's nice to be nice." **** me.

I was blindsided by one line in a contract and am now royally fucked.
