Can't really tell if it's bonded from the picture. Does look ugly to me, though.

The usual suspects (unlucky, corter, LGC, tanner, etc.) all put out fine products at very reasonable prices. I don't see much reason to look beyond them unless you're looking for something special/specific.

the one in that ebay link looks pretty cheap. not sure why it was done with black edges, not to mention the edgework looks poor

I don't know, I'm far from an expert but that eBay belt doesn't look bad for the price. It's stamped "Top Grain" so it's not Full Grain but still, $25 vs $55+. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend.

If the "ebay belt" looks bad, than the same can be said for LGC, tanner etc. Only difference is the edge is not finished. It's those typical leather belt do-it-yourself blanks that are sold out there. A lot of factors can determine the final price, in this case is brand and a blind forum following.

I bought a belt from that barsony ebay store linked above. Sent in a best offer for $15 and it was accepted. However the belt is cheap leather (though it is one piece not bonded) and it arrived very dried out and with a crack right at the buckle that made it essentially useless. It's really stiff, cheap leather that feels like cardboard. I'll wear it until I can afford a better belt.

^^ Nice sorenson belt there (it's got the same buckle as my Unlucky belt ). I asked him a few months ago whether he would consider doing a belt heavier than 10 oz, but got shot down How thick is the leather on yours? I really would recommend Unlucky (Scott's) belt!!! If anything, other than his great handiwork, the ability to customise the belt and incorporate rivets into the final make-up is just awesome - not to mention you get your pick of leather weights. Also, Corter seems to be doing some great stuff, but I've never owned a piece. For those living in Asia (especially Taiwan), check out "Ken's" belts or one of his collaborations with a denim shop called 'faith'; Angelos also does some really nice pieces - his hand-craft is on the same level as Red Moon and The Flat Head, if not better. Obbi Good is another great one - check out their stuff on the mynudies thread. Really clean and novel designs, the burnishing is always superb, the hand-stitching neatly done... And finally, if you want the most uber natural leather on the face of this planet, check out the belt thread on SuFu...will have some pics of 15oz+ oak-bark tanned leather belt by Terry coming soon. Of course, there's always the Japanese brands to fall back on. For a great bang for your buck, I would suggest avoiding expensive names like Red Moon, Samurai, The Flat Head, etc...go with KC's (they make some of Samurai's stuff), Dolce Vita (house brand of Clever, excellent crafting and choice of leathers), Kawatako (for some very well made Tochigi leather), etc So yeah, either buy them from a private leathercraftsman or a specialised leather company - better value, higher quality.

mike your such a stud...so informative actually, i was just reading about unlucky belts (thanks to you), and just shot him an e-mail regarding a new bag, wallet, and belt. plus, i live in the same area that he is so hopefully i can check out his place, if possible. anyway, i love the ks belt. it is a little over 3/16 thick, just a little bit under a 1/4 inch. i have had some samurai belts over the years (that are a little thicker), but for some reason i really love the way this one fits. its thick, but not to thick. and i love the buckle. and you keep talking about terry dear, but i havent been able to get a hold of him yet. hope this helps...

Probably closer to 13 oz than 10 oz?
13 oz is my cut-off, because in my experience most cattlehide under that tend to loose it's 'form'...and that's no good because I need my belt to hold onto large ammo pouches and the like.

Mmm, another belt I would also like to try in the future is a Matsu belt.
Apparently the guy has a stall at the Rose Bowl Flee Market...but me being in Australia, I haven't been able to contact the guy - if anyone has details, I'll much appreciate it

I really like the Corter belt that Blue Owl has, its on sale too making it even more appealing.
