So weird, my experience with Green Zebra was pretty bad. I used a groupon (which may be strike one, I haven't spoken to any foodservice people honestly about the negative effects of a groupon are, but I can only imagine), and I also have a particular palate which basically means I don't eat eggs. We ended up ordering a slurry of things and somehow of the 4 or 5 dishes we got, 3 or 4 of them were deep fried. It was good, but anything deepfried is good and I feel like it's like excessive oak in a wine - a good cover for bad quality.

Anyway, I made a special dinner for the GF yesterday which was garlic and basil gnochi in a homemade meat sauce (sauteed bell peppers, onions, and spices), a toasted cheese sandwich that was a pretzel roll cut up with a guyere melted atop, add truffle oil, spices and basil (definitely the highlight), and to round it out was a sliced chicken breast with all american vegetables and mashed potatoes. Paired with my favorite cheap wine of all time - Rendition Zin. Unfortunately, after such a meal, she proceeded to pass out.

Rabbit loin grilled over cherry wood, rabbit rilette, and braised red cabbage.

Followed by freshly spun vanilla bean ice cream and apricots stewed in sauternes.

This was lunch not dinner but I don't want to start a new thread. Sherman, Texas, birthplace of Buck Owens, about 15 miles south of the Red River. The OO Smokehouse. This place was totally legit - deeply smokey and flavorful chopped brisket. The beans and slaw were also pretty damned good. I was dressed like an iGent - I thought they might make me for a **** but I think they just thought I was rich.

I ate noodles in an "aromatic broth." I think that's the least disagreeable term in the culinary lexicon. It's the equivalent of "ice cold beer."
