I just realized that an ascot would be too casual for a dark suit yet also even more inappropriate for a smart casual event. Interesting, no?

Nah I think it could be fun.

Otherwise everyone will think you are there trying to show how successful you have become.

You mustn't know

Unless it's on a weekend, why not just go in your work clothes?

  • Fame - Esquire and Tweed in the City
  • Hot Wife - rumor says this is true
  • Money - NYC biglaw = money enough (e.g. more money than most)

Show up in sportcoat, and spend 30 mins informing the goatee crowd that your dress is indeed casual in the proper sense of the word.

All kidding aside, enjoy your 10-year! FB has killed the notion of a 5-year for my high school, which is a shame, since I've been far away from where I grew up for the past 6 years or so. Maybe it's for the best---apparently people try too hard to show off at the first reunion. 10 years supposedly means more people are married, settled, and humble.

Thinking more about it, if your friends know you were a finalist for best dressed man, they probably expect you to knock it out of the park.

Good call. Your old classmates will peg you as a loser if you dress like a president who had an approval rating of 48% in September.
