I'm fearful of any type of washing, so I am very careful about the conditions in which I wear my best clothing. Since I wear an undershirt and don't live in a smoggy city, I rarely wash my shirts. (Call me a "scrub," if you'd like, but I hate to picture what any of those machines are doing to my clothes.)

Scrubb!!! Shirts should be washed after every wear! Maybe you can't smell your must, but others can! You are sitting around in a shirt for appr 10hrs every day. Wear>wash!

Westinghouse offers some sound advice that I follow. As far as the frequency of washing one's shirts, I usually wear mine 2-3 times before wash.

Unless you sweat like a pig or stain them, I don't see any real issues with wearing dress shirts more than once. Your opinion may wary.

Don't you find your shirts become incredibly wrinkled after wearing them for even just one day?

Not really. My higher end shirts (Mazzarelli, Barba, Borrelli, etc...) are mostly a blend of cotton, nylon, and elastane, and don't wrinkle that much. Even if there is a little bit of wrinkling, nothing a steaming iron can't fix in 30 seconds. I guess I am in the minority here.

I have good luck washing my shirts in cold water using the "hand wash" selector on my washer. It basically doesn't knock them around as much. I spray the collars and cuffs with shout before puting them in.

I then just hang dry them and the next day I iron them with my Rowenta Steamium. It produces enough steam that I don't even have to sprinkle them with water. I also always iron cuffs and the collar from the underside. This all seems to work well.

Same here. Same like my underwear. Just becasue I didn't fart all day doesn't mean that I can re-use them the following day or that I would air them out to use again.

I could understand this if your body didn't come into contact with the shirt, as in wearing an undershirt. But, the collar is always in contact with your neck, isn't it? I know mine is. And, since I don't use detachable collars where I could just change it out, the whole shirt needs to be washed in order to catch the collar.

Drycleaning is actually good for getting out oily stains like ring around the collar, so I occasionally have my shirts drycleaned. Generally, though, I use some stainer remover before tossing the shirts into a warm water wash.

I wash mine after every wear. But if it's cold outside, I could see myself wearing the same shirt 2-3 times (with an undershirt of course). All people sweat and smell differently.
