Picked up a J.Crew peacoat today with thinsulate for about $175. Couldn't sleep on it at that price.

very envious. tried this on @ the jcrew in the mall near my house. really tempted to buy it, even at 275 bucks.

it's a size small, and my measurements are: 5'11", ~160 lbs, 38" chest. how does it look? does sterlingwear have something similar in terms of cut? i sent them an email inquiring about which of their cuts are slimmer, but never got a response.

I got the size small, and they were running a limited time special for 198.00 plus student discount. Didn't realize it was the thinsulate one till I got home, which is a plus. Thought I was getting the regular one but they had to pull it from the back. It is the nicest peacoat I've owned so far. Used to have an old J.Crew and the an inapt. This will be the last one I buy for a long time.

Hmm, I'm thinking about ordering that one through a proxy. Should really try to get the size right, returning it would be a hassle.
I'm a bit shorter than you, 5'10'', and 158 lbs, with a 38'' chest. Looks really good on you though.

Does it feel restrictive at all? Looks a bit longer than i thought, just below the ass, no? Wondering if it'll be too long for me..

Don't know, and don't know, sorry. I can tell you that a month from now all the common sizes will be sold out. I did this at the Atlanta location. There was a sign posted by the Peacoats that said limited time only $198.00. Also, not sure if it was for the thinsulate or regular versions but they brought me a thinsulate version and I had to have the cashier adjust the price to 198.00 and then apply the 15% discount.

YMMV - hope it helps.

So the consensus seems to be that Schott is itchy and sheds, and Sterlingwear makes a high quality coat at a great price, but has questionable customer service and is boxy. I am not going to entertain JCrew. Any other contenders in the $150-$250 range that I forgot?

Thanks, I'm just going to call J Crew and ask them.

It's totally just a matter of people being stupid. With this forum you have to take everything with a grain of salt. Everyone has an opinion and none of them are worth jack ****.

I agree...people here think everything is definitive.

a little bit - it was pretty comfy with just a t-shirt on, but with a fairly thin hoodie on it was kind of tight, and a bit hard to raise my arms up all the way.

i didn't get a chance to try on a medium since the store closed while i was in the fitting room. i'll probably end up getting a sterlingwear simply because of the price - being a poor college student is no fun.

michelle from sterlingwear finally emailed me back, she suggests that i get an authentic. i have proportionally broad chest/shoulders and a thinner midriff - how "boxy" would the sterlingwear look?
