Leather Jackets: Always buy a size smaller...

Do you all agree?

I find most of the leather jackets I own become too big over time. I really like the snug feeling of a brand new leather jacket and that doesn't last...

I purposely bought a new leather jacket that is a size smaller than what I'm used to wearing. Did I make the right choice?

I can still zip it up but I can barely move in it to be honest lol.

Generally speaking I'd say that's good advice. Leather jackets should be worn tight, and I think that's the way it's intended. As usual, depends on who makes it. I'm in the market for a leather jacket, but am having a hard time finding a decent deal.

Ya I'd wait till thanksgiving weekend. Loads of great deals then.

For most brands I agree, but not Schott! Those run S M A L L! In that brand you have to size up.

yeah, I'm buying mediums now at 6'1" and 195 lbs

my one and only large leather jacket is now used only when i need layering in the really cold days of winter, the salesperson at the leather store told me to get a medium. I actually wanted to get an XL because I was the average teen who wanted a size bigger, and he said he wouldn't let me walk out of the store with it because it will look rediculous.

lame story, but it is what it is

I've had a Schott Perfecto for 21 years. In suits I'm a size 39 or 40 and my Schott is size 46. Fits me like a glove and yes I do have a motorbike so it's used for what it was made for.

ya can't go cheap on leather. People can tell by look feel and fit. =)

I bought a belstaff jacket. The model is the Police Blouson(one Leo wore in The Departed).

It's actually very tough leather as with most Belstaff jackets. It's quite restricting so far, but I'm hoping it stretches out eventually.

We have the exact same dimensions. 6'1 and 196 as of this morning.

but cool, yeah I went with a medium on this purchase.

I'll bet that's right. Schott really does run that small. I bought four different ones one after another on Ebay last year and every single one looked like a bare midriff / belly shirt.

Hot on a 20-something girl with good abs. Not so on a 30-something dude who likes good food and good Scotch.

No-good fitting leather jackets are sized fairly appropriately. Unfortunately, bad fitting leather jackets comprise about 99% of all jackets in the world with the expectation that the customer will want to throw on five hoodies underneath and still have enough room to stuff a Subway sandwich in there.

Regarding zipped/unzipped: sometimes things should just hang open and unzipped, or partially zipped.

Well Schott is an Anerican company and I bought it in New York so I'm assuming that was American size.
