I'm planning a trip to NYC for 22-29.10. I used to live in NYC but it's been many years since I've been back. Any recommendations on what I should do in terms of shopping, restaurants, sights, museums, sporting events, theater shows etc?

I'm especially on the look out for nice shirts and chinos. Thanks in advance.

Thanks will be sure to check out Save Khaki. I'm staying near 5th avenue. Any store nearby that stocks them? Look forward to hearing more recommendations.

I am aware of the numerous NYC threads but I'm hoping to get an updated view on what to do.

Those are bad recommendations in my opinion. If you are really staying to the fifth ave area you are limiting yourself. But I would go to Paul Stuart, Bergdorf Goodman, Brooks Brothers, J.Press, John Lobb, Church's, Alden, Barney's.

Ignore recommendations for restaurants and just go find your own. Moma is a must see in my opinion, many would also say the Met. Lots of expensive shopping on 5th and 6th aves. See a sporting event. Rangers or Giants.

As far as discount stores go...
Plan a day in Soho
Filene's for shirts
Loehmann's for ties
Century 21 for suits
Barney's Coop for everything.

Uniqlo is great for jeans. Make sure you get off at Grand Central and look at it. Times Square after dark.

Thanks for the recommendations. I heard Shake Shack has great hamburgers. Have to give it a go.

Anymore suggestions? Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.

I got to check that out next time I'm in town.

OP - you should visit Ed Morel. He loves meeting up with fellow SFers. He might even let you try on his pants.
