Ok, I see these 'vintage' things with Christian Dior and Pierre Cardin labels on them. Are these GOOD or not? Ebay is crawling with them.

Are these STYLE, or are these VILE?

Vintage Fashion Guild (www.vintagefashionguild.org) is an excellent resource on everything vintage. In particular, you can research and see examples, in date order, of the different labels used by a particular manufacturer over a period of years. But be careful: "label switching" is very common in the field of vintage. If the label is valuable but the garment is damaged, why not switch the label to some other (and probably cheap) garment and sell it on ebay as an "ABC original"?

Old Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent can be absolute garbage. I definitely remember a point when those were the "nice" brands at mall department stores, so were about as quality as Chaps or Nautica.

Many many years ago I acquired some "surprisingly cheap" Pierre Cardin suits. Found out there was a lot of polyester in them.
I wondered if they were fake but later found out that it seems that Pierre Cardin basically licensed out the name to anybody prepared to pay for it.
So those suits were not fake garbage but authentic garbage.

Pierre Cardin was one of the best back in the day. Then he sold his name to every idiot with a sewing machine and that was the end of that. Wikipedia Article
