The guy was being a dick and did it on purpose, it wasn't an accident on his behalf. So if some douche just came up to you and stamped on your feet, with some douche bag grin on his face, what would you do?

as long as you condition it after soaking it should be fine

But seriously you should have clarified the situation - I've been there a couple times (in Baltimore dive bars no less) and it sucks - someone trying to alpha male you when you're with a date. I take a few different approaches, largely contingent on a) how drunk I am b) how drunk the asshole is and c) if I'm with my friend who is training for Air Force special forces.....

Out of non-violent options I like the over friendly approach, give him a big bear hug and be too ******* nice. Establishes your own dominance in a physical way without being violent.
