not sure if they are avail online. I got my Cherry Blossom when I was in London, and the Timpson and Carr Daily I got from a mate in UK who turned me on to them.

yes the quality difference is substantial. Even better quality on the For Life than the MIE dms. The ones i saw in OCeremony were just the pebbled grain leather DMs, nothing special and actually pretty gross

Don't know why I never posted in this thread, I've read the whole thing probably twice. MoM, love the photos, love seeing the progression of the style through the years! Since this is a fashion website I feel it to be acceptable to mention I've recently got my 11eye Oxblood Solovair boots, they're amazing! Also I just won an auction on ebay for some MIE 3eye cherry red Doc's. Also, I've been really getting into the 2tone style a lot lately, trying to find some black loafers that I can wear some extremely tapered trousers with.

I;m in the US so I doubt I have a branch near me. I will agree with you, those are some nice looking loafers. If I decide to get them it will probably have to wait a few months though!

Up until now I've been wearing jeans rolled up with boots, but plan on getting them tapered and then having them cut, folded once with a iron-adhesize strip than folded again and sewed as I've heard to do from others. The problem is: what color do I sew the turnup with? I don't want it to stand out and I don't know whether or not to just do stitches all around the turnup or just every few inches?

I think the answer is to catch the cloth with the stitches - i.e. the stitches don't actually appear on the outside of the turnup. Ask your mom or your grannie - I'm not being facetious or insulting, but it's a dressmaking technique that older women might know.

I do mine in a light grey thread, it blends in with the weft side of the turnup. and you should stitch all the way around, not just every few inches so that it can gape open at the spots not sewn down. 1/2" is the usual amount for the sewn down turnup

here's my jeans for today with 1/2" sewn turnup, grey thread. oxblood "for life" DMs and Strike Gold jeans

make sure the length is right before sewing it down, I like my jeans to end at mid ankle so they're slightly highwater and the bottom of jean ends at around the 4th or 5th eyelet of boot

MA-1....I still wear mine, I have a black one by Alpha and an Alpha "authentic" one in grey (based on the first years model, 1953 or so?) and I like it for wet weather, cold weather, where you dont want to be too fussy. That said, I dont think they're a particularly smart jacket and I usually wear em more for practical reasons than aesthetic. The "authentic" one is warm as ****, since it has a wool interlining and is heavy, but surprisingly fits and looks very slim for being so bulky

and only get Alpha Industry MA-1s. the knockoffs that you see for $40 all suck, they will make you look like the Michelin tire man. Alpha jackets are fairly slim looking, for what it is (a non slim jacket)

I also sport an MA-1. I got mine in black. The only problem...the thing is just so damned warm. I can only wear it when its very blustery. I get more compliments on that jacket than on almost any other piece of outwear I own.

Growing up (mid-80s - early 90s), maroon and olive green were the preferred colors amongst the local skinheads.
