Samuelsohn versus J P Tilford Samuelsohn

Harry Rosen sells Samuelsohn suits under their own brand - J P Tilford. I was recently in another menswear store (Robert Jones Menswear) that sells Samuelsohn.

I'm wondering what is the difference between the J P Tilford Samuelsohn suits versus a Samuelsohn suit purchased at another store? Are they different in terms of quality? cut? anything else?

The price is pretty much the same.

Thanks!

There may be store-specific models. Quality should be the same.

Couldn't find an answer to this while searching so I'll just use this thread for my question.

Are the Samelsohn and JP Tilford cut in the exact same fashion and simply renamed JP Tilford?

What I mean by this is can I find the EXACT equivalent to a Samuelsohn Gable model in the JP Tilford?

If so, could you name the equivalent?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide any help!

JP Tilford is Harry Rosen's branding of Sameulsohn products. You can go into Harry's and let them know that you are looking for a JP in the Gable....a made to measure specialist will be able to sort you out.

My Tilford has the same model name as the Sammys. I think they are identical.

Just to bump this thread, I was in a Harry Rosen the other day and asked the SA what the J.P. Tilford equivalent was to the Samuelsohn "Gable" model. The SA stared at me blankly and said he had never heard of the "Gable". I wish I had asked the Samuelsohn representative when he was in-store, because the Harry's staff can be hit and miss when it comes to their product knowledge.

I think he was just stunned that a young(ish) guy was interested in Samuelsohn instead of Hugo Boss.

I'm not sure if it is changed or not, but when I was getting a mtm done last year. The closest to the gable was either the 'rugby' or 'richard', with the biggest difference between the latter 2 being lapel width

My Samuelsohn JP Tilford suit is the Gable model.

Weird... I actually emailed Samuelsohn directly to ask, and they said that all J.P. Tilford styles were exclusive to (and only offered through) Harry Rosen. Maybe this is something that has recently changed?

I regularly see JP Tilford at Nordstrom Rack during seasonal clearance. Nordstrom was carrying some JP Tilford sport coats; not sure if they still are.

Very strange indeed. I wonder what the arrangement will be when Nordstrom opens in Canada in a couple of years; I suspect that Harry Rosen wouldn't want them selling J.P. Tilford if it's their exclusive brand in Canada.

Just to provide an update on my previous posts above, I spoke to a Samuelsohn representative about the differences between the "Gable" style coat (i.e. non-Rosen) and "Ashton" style coat (i.e. J.P. Tilford @ Rosen). He said that he couldn't get into specific measurements, but he said that generally speaking, the ashton had a slightly shorter coat length and slightly trimmer waist compared to the Gable. This makes sense, as they seemed to be similar at a glance. But good to hear it from the horse's mouth.

I'm still waiting for Harry Rosen to complete the alteration work, so I haven't picked it up yet. Looking forward to it, though.

I've wondered why Nordstrom is selling JP TIlford. Interestingly, the label in my suit says Samuelsohn (no mention of JP TIlford), but the tags that came with it said Samuelsohn, JP TIlford, Gable model.

Anybody purchased a J.P. Tilford suit recently? I just placed an order at HR for a slimmer cut called Richard III. Can anyone confirm that their suits are fully sewn canvassed? I tried doing the pinch test and it was pretty hard to tell. Some of them feels like they are fused.

They should be full canvased.

Are you joking that the name of model is Richard III? Someone in their marketing skipped literature classes
