Did a local half marathon today in 1 hour and 48 minutes. It was a much better time than I was anticipating since I've only run maybe 5 or 6 times in the past 8 weeks and I think the longest of those runs was only 8 miles (a new baby makes it hard to get out as much as I used to).

It gets a little messy when you push it beyond that (especially if you use a stopwatch for your splits). What type of race do you shoot for Jwied?

pretty much anything from 5k to half-marathon... but I never really train specifically for a certain race/distance.
i did a marathon once but i found i didnt like it as well as other race distances, i dont quite have the patience for it. I did pretty well and all, but im not itching to run another one anytime soon.

Did about three today. I usually average about 4-5 miles on a daily basis with one day of rest and recovery.

Ive run maybe 5 or 6 half-marathons, but ive run far more 5ks than anything else, mainly because they are far more prevalent. You can pretty much find a local 5k somewhere around here every weekend during the spring and fall.
Also, i dont really like the idea of registering in advance, which pretty much all marathons make you do, then on top of that most of the time you have to go pick up your number/timing chip a day or two before the race. (I'm the same way with concerts, i much prefer paying at the door rather than buying a ticket in advance.)
alot of the time just pick out a race a couple days in advance then sign up that morning. Although, one advantage to pre-registering for me is that i will definately get myself up and actually run the race, whereas if i am planning on registering that morning there always a good chance i will just say screw it and go back to sleep.

how many marathons have you run?
you should definately try a 5k sometime.

Ran from Back Bay area of Boston to Harvard Square, getting lost a few times along the way. Ended up being 7-8 miles with a hangover and no water fountains until at least mile 5

Today: 7 Miles at about 7:30 Min miles
The SF marathon was my 4th one, and I ran the long beach Half. I am going to try for a sub 3:20 at this year's Surf City and part of that will be a lot of speed work. I know there are some local 5k's and the like around here. I am gonna run the Long Beach half in two weekends, but I am gonna be slow(got out of a walking boot 2 weeks ago)
