I would go for Burgundy personally as I have burgundy on rotation. Charcoal if it is on the dark usually goes with black shoes. Burgundy is just one of those great colors that matches with almost anything including charcoal. Is dark brown and burgundy equal. Not really. Burgundy has the browns, purples and reds hues and looks great in the sun light.

+1 on all that. When I wrote equal I rather meant that both colors are equally "correct" to wear with those pants suggested by the OP.
