Actually, something similar happened on a shaving forum - but the twist was that the member's name was Will - and he made and sold shaving soaps that were universally praised. That said, recipe followed Will into the grave. Javyn knows about this.
Uhh, no thanks.
Not SF related, but an online community. When I was playing MMO's in my college days (yup, I'm a nerd) we had a guy who pretty much ran the guild. Really nice dude, smart too (has a really good gig with Cisco working remotely in his $4 mill home on the beach in Hawaii etc). He said he was going to visit family in Cali for the 4th of July weekend and afterward we didn't see him online for a while. His sister finds out his guild forum information because he mentioned to his family how he enjoys it in his spare time, and posts that he was hit by a drunk driver on the 4th of July and was in a coma. I never heard what happened as I stopped playing shortly after. We were all devastated by the loss
I also remember in one of those car forums a kid was posting about his new bmw his dad gave him and continued asking stuff, and a few weeks that kid died when his bmw flew off the side of a tarmac he used to race in, or something like that. that was creepy.
This happened to me in EQ. I was in one of the first "uberguilds" formed, having started in beta. This guy was a kick ass shammy. He had a fatal disease going on and it was pretty sad. He died just before we had PoT on farm status. The guild kept his toon logged on for a week straight at the entrance to PoE (we were just getting the tikimen event down) and had him AFK.

I am surprised at the depth of geekness. Is this real, or are you just funnin' us?
I don't know about on this forum, but on TheFashionSpot in the old days a very valued member named Kit, who was one of the most knowledgable, classy members of any board on which I've been, passed and the Mods spread that word around. Fuuuma and LK probably remember him; they were there back then.
