Yeah. Some of the 'manly' men out there even equate cardigans as being feminine. I use a bowling bag as a gym bag because it fits my stuff nicely, but a lot of people think it's a purse because it's not a traditional duffle bag. I browse through the thread from time to time and I can see you really spent the time and effort on it. Don't let some lame trolls deter you.
LOL. I love how criticising one bag for being feminine takes me from "Respected Member And Moderator" to "Lame Troll". God bless SF. None of this is to detract from rach's knowledge of the subject matter, or an excellent thread with some beautiful items posted, but, just so I understand, the purpose of this thread is to automatically worship every bag that is posted with the word 'homme' in its name. Is that right? So here's a question... If someone posted a pic of a pink floral purse...renamed it Wilderness:Homme, insisted it was inspired only by the most masculine of flowers, and that Henry the 8th carried a pink purse daily, and this bag was inspired by the bag that he used to bring back the heads of hand slain moose...would you guys seriously not think it was a purse?

i am positive the japanese mori boys would wear it.

In other news, haven't had a chance to check these out yet (found this info below on another forum, link at bottom), but here apparently are the Tanneries that supply Hermes with their leathers. Any DIYers may want to give them a try:
Saw this a couple weeks ago by chance during some random googling to source different leathers for the jackets I'll be releasing. I got samples from Bodin-Joyeux. They do only lambskin and it's incredible stuff. Huge range of colors, and the benchmark for 'buttery soft'. Expensive though. I'll probably use it eventually once I have a bit more brand image/recognition. I'm waiting to hear back from Tannerie Arnal as their belt leather looks great. The rest, as mentioned, do mostly just calfskin and that's not something I need right now.

I didn't really read that as directed at you, necessarily, but more in general. Anyway, no, "automatic worship" is not the question and we've been pretty critical throughout. HOWEVER, the point is not to dismiss automatically, without taking into consideration the needs/interests/style a particular member may have. It's one thing to say, "I'm not crazy about that bag; I think it would be hard to use because of the small shape/stiff leather/long handles/etc" but another to say, "Dude, it's a purse!" That's neither useful nor helpful to the member trying to find himself a bag to use. You and a coupla others didn't try to be particularly helpful to describe what you found wrong with the bag, except "it looks feminine" and "purselike." That's what caused me to go into the Hermes saddle-bag aside, to make a point. We also look at price, materials, etc. instead of just leaping to a categorization like "feminine/masculine." I've seen some men rock "women's" clutches and make it look great. On the other hand, I've seen some try to rock old-style leather mail bags, and it looks awful. Anyway, can we just let this go? Your opinion is always valued, it's just hard to do much with an opinion that dismisses something out-of-hand, especially when that opinion is based more on fabricated social expectations than on anything having to do with the actual bag in question. Boys can't wear pink! Girls can't wear blue! Let's move on. Can we smoke the peace pipe by having you post a bag you like and/or are using? I intend to make peace by posting this $30k Crocodile Bottega Veneta and an Hermes sac a depeche.

actually I said it was the long handles and lack of structure.

Made by a Vietnamese shoe-maker a few years ago, who swore never to work with me or my ex again thereafter (we had to lie and tell them it was a sample and we would later be making 1000 for export in order to get them to accept the order)....shamelessly pilfered from a family heirloom of forumite Lucky Strike, here are some slightly speckly (too lazy to retake them) shots of my bag:





I bought the leather separately from a small store specialising in hides, it was about $60, having it made cost me about $30-40 i think...so it was around a hundred give or take.

It has had the zip replaced, the original was too thin, and it needs a little maintenance now, as one of the studs popped that holds one of the top handles on, so will need to be re-riveted when I get around to taking it in. but otherwise, I love it...its been all over the world with me in the past 3 years, and the leather looks great for the punishment...

^Wow! I would love to be near a place that was so reasonable. There are lots of leather craftsmen in japan who do bespoke... but by the time they're done... you could nearly buy whatever you want. I like the round/cylindrical style duffles like yours; I have a black Furla Uomo one that is great for short trips. Being picky, the only thing I'd maybe want different on your bag would be a silver or palladium large zipper (like a RIRI M8.) The brownish zippers make me think of the 70's, and something silver/palladium (or even gold!) gives it just a hint of contrast, and would match the snaps/studs more closely. BUT, it's a small detail and considering what Riri's run even just for the zipper, probably nothing to worry about. Also, having recently found where Hermes sources its leathers, I'd really like to get a hide or two and take it to somebody to put together. Though, I take it from your description it MIGHT not be a good idea to tell him, "Hey, Matt sent me!"

I realize this might be slightly outside the scope of this thread and for that I apologize. I find myself searching for a stylish masculine diaper bag if such a thing exists. So far I've come across this Petulia Pickle Bottom which I like the looks of though am not convinced it will be functional enough:




I'd really like a handsome & functional leather bag if at all possible. Any suggestions?

No need for apologies; it's a good question! Diaper bags are actually great; I like them often better than Messengers. They have more pockets, more spaces for storage, and are often slightly larger while having a more functional shape. They also generally have a spot in them for "bottles," which function great for carrying a bottle of water/soda or whatever. What is your budget? That will help, as lots of brands make them, from lower priced all the way up to Prada (which makes a really nice, simple, functional one.) Lambertson truex also used to make a nice one, IIRC, but they've gone out of business.
