Hello everyone,

I have been searching for flatware lately and i am getting confuse. At the begining i thought that there were only 2 types of flatware: stainless and silverware. The thing is that now i found 2 more types: sterling silver and silver plate.

can any explain the difference between them? (stainless flatware, sterling flatware, silverplate flatware and silverware)

thank you very much

Stainless steel flatware is made of stainless steel.
Silverplate flatware is made of a layer sterling silver over a base metal.
Sterling flatware is made of all sterling sliver ... or whatever % of silver qualifies as sterling.

Silverware typically refers to silverplate flatware and sterling sliver flatware ... but some use the term to refer to any and all kinds of flatware.

By the way ... Silverware can also refer to hollowware ... silver bowls, platters, etc.
