Any thoughts on matching v-neck and tie?

As the title says, what are your thoughts on wearing ties and v-necks of the same colour?

I've enclosed a picture of the combination I'm considering wearing.

yay or nay?

If it makes any difference, the pants will be black corduroy and the shoes black captoe oxfords, so two colour ensemble, with a white shirt of course.

It's not exciting or creative, but as long as you're not wearing matching pants, it's not a bad option. It's better than wearing a hideous looking tie.

There are certainly more interesting combinations, but with dark gray wool flanel pants and black shoes it's not that boring I think. At any rate the main point is that I really like the colour, and I really like both the tie and the sweater and I'd like to wear them together. I don't usually wear ties with sweaters, so not sure what's acceptable and what will end up looking silly. I just don't want to look like Lumbergh from Office Space with identical fabric for his tie and his braces.

It's definitely within the range of acceptable. You won't look silly, but you won't look especially good either.

The bigger problem, IMHO, is the black corduroys that you're planning to wear with this.

Allright fair enough, guess I'll avoid it.

By the way, what's wrong with black corduroys?

Well call me old fashioned or whatever but I like it. The colors match well and it is a nice semi dressy look.

It's just my opinion, and of course reasonable people can disagree on this point. But I think that in almost every case, there are options for pants color that are better than black. Either the contrast is too harsh--e.g., black and orange, black and red--or else there's not enough contrast--e.g., black and navy, black and burgundy. I don't think there's a single color that actually looks good with black. (Unless you count white. But even that doesn't look very good except in formal dress, again IMHO.)

My opinion about black pants is actually similar to my opinion about your tie and sweater being the same color: it doesn't look awful, but it doesn't look good either.

Aside from the matching tie/sweater, the shirt is too formal for this. It would be better with a blue oxford button down, or maybe an oxford stripe.

The pieces are nice individually, i like the grenadine tie. I rarely wear v-necks but i dont mind the look.
