Jermyn Street celebrates The Art of Being British

"On Saturday 4th September Jermyn Street will be transformed into a traditional English garden party, celebrating the quintessentially British style that the street is famous for.

From 12pm - 5pm this exciting event will see Jermyn Street transformed into a traffic-free zone, giving visitors a rare opportunity to see the Street's specialist retailers and restaurants demonstrate their craftsmanship and offer VIP treatment to visitors both within the stores and out on the street.

The Cavendish Hotel will be offering a complimentary hog roast; Fortnum & Mason will be serving teas; cheese experts Paxton & Whitfield will be demonstrating the art of cheese making; exclusive shoemaker Church's will hold a footwear making demonstration and Cigar specialists Davidoff will have an expert on the street, teaching the secrets of fine hand-rolled cigars.

British jewelers Links of London will be serving lemonade and teacakes and visitors will have the opportunity to win one of their British Bulldog charms. New & Lingwood will celebrate their history as official outfitters to Eton with a unique in store display and T.M. Lewin will transform their stores into a walk-in museum where a specialist seamstress will be at work.

Musicians from the Royal Academy of Music will perform up and down the street, whilst delicious champagne teas are served at Franco's, Pimms is prepared by The St James's Hotel and Duke's master barmen instruct visitors on how to make their world-famous martinis. The Ritz will have their infamous Phantom Rolls Royce on display, whilst their head chef cooks and serves canapÃ

Other participants include: Berry Bros, Foster & Son, Charles Tyrwhitt, Emmett, Favourbrook, Floris, Hackett, Hawes & Curtis, R.E. Tricker and Thomas Pink."

I'm in, and I may even convince my father to take a looka as well.

Now I just have to decide what to wear!

Sounds entertaining enough, though when did "being British" become an "art"?

My dear boy! Doing anything with sufficient flair is to make it an artform!

Being British is an extension of being English. We were just magnanimous enough to let a few others join in during 1707. The art has been in existence at least a thousand years.

What about an impromptu SF meeting? - Let's agree on a time and meet in front of Beau Brummel in Jermyn Street.

No big plans, no great e-mail correspondence, everyone who wants to come, just shows-up.

I am rather peeved that I posted about this first with no response whatsoever....
